The Bucolic Cafe, Setia Alam — Restaurant in Shah Alam

This used to be the place for close-to-authentic Italian pizza for us until they changed the pizza dough to thin, crusty cookie sheet type of pizza that most Malaysian likes. Urgghhh! I'm not sure if they change it so it's similar to another establishment nearby which serves this type of pizza, I hope they return the Italian kind of pizza PLEASE! We told the staff at the cashier but he seemed puzzled, maybe some new person because the last we visited was some time ago due to COVID.

We only ordered delivery once a while during that time because their food wasn't very consistent. The clam chowder was super salty, the staff even called to check and explain on why, that was a few yrs ago. The mushroom is so oily, I mean mushroom soaks up a lot like sponges which a normal person like me even knows, I'm not sure why the chefs doesn't? From then on, we kind of move away from them.

They are also always closed for events, so another reason why we couldn't visit more often.

But they do great events, I mean GREAT. Tried their food a few times for events - canapé was so good and food served is different, not the same boring kind of food you find at most events and it comes with very nice decorations which may be why they are always closed for wedding events.

Overall, the pricing is very affordable for the food they serve. They just need more consistency from the junior chefs.

Fingers crossed they bring back authentic...

Disappointing service, unhelpful staffs…. That’s what I would say about this place, regardless of how delicious the food is or how cozy the ambience is, there are other places out there that serve even better food with equally nice environment and most importantly: attentive and helpful staffs providing good customer service. We were half way eating when my kid (5yo) suddenly did not feel well, and was too late to rush to the toilet, ended up vomited on the table (luckily the food was untouched). My partner and I were quick to cover up the mess with all the paper napkins on the table and struggling to clean up while pacifying our crying kid. The waiters/waitresses were all standing at the counters, watching and doing nothing. Until I had to request for help, then only the staff passed on a small stack of tissues to us. And that was it! While I brought my kid to the toilet, my partner was the one cleaning and wiping the table with the tissue papers provided. None of the staff came to help or the least they could pass a bin to us to throw away the dirtied tissues and napkins. Yet, they did nothing but looking while we were struggling to bring the mess to throw into the bin near the toilet. They did not even come to wipe the table with wet cloth after we cleaned up the mess, not even “is everything ok?” and we were still sitting there to finish our food. We were taken aback by the ignorant and unhelpfulness...

The food and environment was good. The only concern that makes me and my partner disatisfied was the attitude of one of the staffs.

We were ordering and he did not even give me feedback (not even a nod, as if i was talking to myself) until i starred at him while I ordered/mentioned the third dish on the menu. Another thing was about him not writing down/take notes of what we ordered, until the end of ordering, i requested him to repeat our order (this is a common practice among many restaurants to ensure no wastage of food or unwanted conflict if the wrong dish is served). Guess what, he answered in mandarin "er.. is ok, i will ask you guys again later". Then he walked away. Wow! Me and my partner starred at each other for a sec after he walked away, what kind of service is this?

Then, after a minute, he came back and said to us that the Pesto Penne was not available. Then, as usual, i ordered something else... once I placed the order, he pointed on the other dish saying that "you order this too right?" with a monotone, not sure if he was confirming with me or trying to show off how good his memory was without paper and pen jotting down.

Well, i am not a choosy or difficult guy.. just that was a little bit culture shocked when i experience such little thing that was supposed to practice by restaurants. Standards of...
