We came here again, but this time on a saturday night...and the vibes are so much different!! People were just chillin' out, with no rush to leave, and the foods were aplenty!!
This time around the crowd was not so big, and the queue was not so long...we even invited some friends to join us, and it was the first for them, even for Shah Alam residents!!
We came here as my wife had been wanting to go to Warong Dahan for the longest time, but we could never make it happen. So that particular morning I just simply obliged. She said that they close at 10:00 am, so we left quite early that morning.
Upon our arrival, we found that this area is made up of a few small stalls structure, probably built by the City Hall, as there was public toilet facility nearby. But the eating areas were swarming with patrons!! Even all the designated parking lots were taken, so I just dropped off my wife and went to look for a place to park. I ended up parking in front of some houses across the open field, and had to walk for quite a distance.
As I approached the stalls, my wife was already queing to order. But she was queing at Warong Tiga Lima, not Warong Dahan! In my utter confusion, she asked me to take her place, as she wanted to book a sitting place at the table nearby. She reminded me to get for her the Lontong and Lempeng...
Slowly I figured out that the Warong Dahan was the one immediately next to Warong Tiga Lima, but I could place my order there and pay for them, even for those dishes offered by Warong Dahan...My next confusion came when they asked me whether I wanted Lontong Darat or Lontong Kering? Even the Lempeng also came with Sambal Bilis or chocolate or cheese? How would I know? And my wife was already happily sitting at the table and flipping through her phone. So I ended up ordering the basic lontong and lempeng, and the nasi lemak for me. I dont know how she liked her orders, but she didnt quite finish them. My nasi lemak could have been better if they offer some sambal kerang, sambal sotong or paru goreng, but it was not meant to be. After all, this was our first visit here..
The most interesting part was that the stall carried a certain retro theme, which could be clearly visible in the decorations, the dressings and outfits of the staffs, and the type of music they played. It reminded me of the era of the P. Ramlee movies of the 60's. That was quite nice..
But the music could have been played a bit softer, so as not to disturb the customers... In the evening, the Kopi Kartun would take over, serving drinks, pasteries and finger foods only. But I have yet to try this either, so I will just hope for better...
Read moreJust moved to Shah Alam and checked this place out after some people told me that this place is a "Must Try".
Parking: I was lucky to get a parking lot as soon as I arrived. Great! But if you come on a weekend, come by Grab.
Operating Hours: I arrived at 7:45am and realised they open at 8am. There were 5 people in the queue, so I joined the line and patiently waited. But I don't understand why the staff only showed up at 8am, and after all the prep work, only officially started to take orders from 8:20am. Weird.
Ambiance: Its just a food stall in a park area. Nothing great there. Its just that they took the trouble to buy some antique looking cupboards and some decor items to create a warung feel. Their tables and stools are also made of wood, adding on to the overall feel. Apart from that, nothing else is noteworthy
Safety: The foot path is quite flat, however, getting to the tables will be quite tricky, as you have to negotiate tree roots and the dangerous steel legs of their canopy. Not recommended for those using walking sticks, walking frames and wheelchairs.
Service: Even though I was there very early in the day, their staff already appeared flustered and stressed. Perhaps its due to them arriving at the shop at 8am, which is their Opening Hour. Orders were taken without much drama, but I felt a slight indifference from their counter staff.
Price: For a food stall in Shah Alam, I guess it was ok. However, if you were to include the lack of air conditioning, the irregular flooring when negotiating your way towards your table, their tardiness, and the indifferent attitude of their counter staff, it will leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
Food and drinks: Nasi Lemak: Nothing great, just a small portion of cold nasi lemak wrapped in brown paper. Lempeng: Nothing great, just two cold rolls of lempeng, served with sambal ikan bilis Lontong Kering: Nothing great, just a small portion of cold nasi impit served with cold nasi impit and sambal. Nescafe Tarik: Just a regular drink, served from a large beverage dispenser.
Conclusion: If you are a fan of driving around to look for parking, enjoy standing in a long queue with strangers, don't have to be somewhere in 1 hour, don't have any walking issues, don't mind a jolt of indifference from the counter staff, enjoy eating cold food, then this is the place to be.
Two visits is enough for me to come to a conclusion that they do not appreciate the support they are getting. Such a shame because if they did 4-5 things right, it will make such a difference.
Verdict: Not recommended. Better to spend your money where you are...
Read moreToday, me and my family went to the oh-so-classic warung by the street. And i will not lie on saying that the food is not good, because the food is good… the Roti Bakar Kaya is the only good thing to be Truly honest. Nasi Lemak Telur Mata could’ve been better. The drinks?? The mamaks does it better.
I’m not one to say I don’t support locals, but to support someone or something, it’s not only the food needs to be good but the service. The service was bad as hell. I truly get it you have so many customers, but the fact that you guys can’t handle the full pact, prepare the food before (tak kisahlah ramai ke tak customer, it’s better to prepare than expecting the worse to happen). I’m not trying to say that the cashier is biased, because the people before me & my sister are bunch of lelaki who doesn’t prepare their orders beforehand knowing that the queue is long, macam bodoh. The cashier, could’ve been better, wasn’t even paying attention to what we are telling/asking her, and kept making us repeating our orders because she kept layan the customers on other side as if there’s not a guy on THE SIDE.
Not only me who is frustrated over this, apparently an old couple beside me was frustrated too with the service. So basically, it’s not only me…
Overall, 1/10 for the service. 6/10 for foods, 8/10 for the vibes there bcs there’s a cat. Like I said, I do support locals, but with great service & food, nevertheless this…. Warung Tiga Lima was not worth the viral. This is not to downgrade your business but to make sure you guys are aware on how bad your service is and to do something to improve your service so lots of people will come not only for the food but also for the...
