After completing my mom’s medical check-up at Subang Jaya Medical Centre today, we decided to reward ourselves with a little Italian indulgence and dropped by Amici Ristorante Italiano for lunch. We arrived fashionably late at around 1:30 PM — and by some divine stroke of luck, found a parking spot right in front of the restaurant (a rare miracle in Subang!). To our surprise, the place was fairly quiet, which honestly made us question if we had stumbled into a hidden gem — spoiler alert: we definitely did. We started with a beef pepperoni pizza to share — thin, crispy, and deliciously Italian, especially with that addictive Italian chili sauce. I ordered the spinach-stuffed risotto in tomato sauce, which I fondly call my "Western Wantan" — soft, savory, and absolutely spot-on in flavor. My mom and her friend went with the lamb rack, which was juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The portion? Generous enough to make you think twice about dessert (but not really). The ambience screams Italian charm. Think rustic decor, a cozy fire pit (which reassured me the pizza had to be good), and TV screens displaying scenic views of Europe. Even the background music added a lively, upbeat vibe — like you're dining somewhere in Rome, minus the airfare. Now, let’s talk service — easily a 5-star experience. The staff was attentive, and the owner himself came over when one of the lamb racks turned out slightly undercooked. Without hesitation, he acknowledged it and swiftly had it returned to the kitchen. No fuss, just class. Bonus points for providing free still water — something more restaurants should do. And honestly, I kept wondering if all the staff were Italian — they certainly looked the part (or maybe it was just the charming accents). All in, we spent RM211 — great value for the quality, service, and location. If you’re around Subang and craving authentic Italian food with heart, flavor, and fire-pit vibes, Amici Ristorante is well worth the visit. I’ll definitely be back — hopefully with the same parking luck.

Saw this place on social media and a friend said she wanted to visit when she was next in KL. I happened to be nearby so decided to try it out first. Arrived around 12.20pm on a Saturday. Parking was a slight challenge but since I know the area, that wasn't an issue. I got the last table - a high table. Initial impression was good. Service staff was friendly. I was given a menu and made my order - the ravioli dish. I was looking forward to it as freshly made ravioli is uncommon in Malaysia. 5 minutes later, another service staff came and told me it's not available and handed me the menu again. I was already irked - if it is not available 20+ minutes after opening, please tell the customer before/when placing the order. And this is on a Saturday. Prep work and planning fail? Picked something else on the menu - beef cannelloni. Asked for drinking water. Waited 5+ minutes again, asked for drinking water again. As I was dining alone, I told the wait staff I don't mind sharing table since the place is so full and busy. Couple came in and sat at end of my table. They were ordering desserts. Asked for tiramisu, not available. They ordered something else. I asked for water again. Water arrived around 12.50pm. I am unamused by this time. My food came closer to 12.54pm. I was hungry. Food tasted good. Would have liked more cheese as tomato sauce was a bit acidic for my personal taste. Asked for more parmesan cheese to help cut through the acidity which was given quite fast (I was surprised after the long wait for water). Food was delicious. Went to pay and I left. Wondering if I would ever come back. With the social media spotlight recently, maybe not in the near future. Price is on a slightly high side. I get it that it's authentic. The dining experience is not just about food but also the service and ambience. So much potential and I am sure the restaurant can do better. Until then, it will be put on KIV list with so many options in SS15.

I don’t even know where to begin with this disaster of a restaurant, but here’s the short version: it was a complete waste of money, and my taste buds are still recovering from the offense. Let’s start with the carbonara, or at least their interpretation of it. Instead of actual ingredients, they served it with processed chicken slices. Not real chicken, not fresh — just those sad, flavorless strips that taste like plastic. To top it off, they drenched the pasta in garlic and oil, which has no place whatsoever in real carbonara. No creaminess from eggs, no bold Pecorino Romano, no pepper — just a bland, greasy mess that tasted like confusion in a bowl. It was genuinely insulting. And somehow, the pizza was even worse. It tasted frozen, the tomato sauce was obviously cheap and store-bought, and the toppings were so sparse it felt like a cruel joke. I’ve had better pizzas from Domino’s — yes, Domino’s — makes a far superior pie at a third of the price. Honestly, if you’re charging restaurant prices, maybe don’t serve something that tastes like it came out of a microwave. As if the food wasn’t enough of a train wreck, the service was just horrendous. Rude staff, slow to even acknowledge customers, and the kind of attitude that makes you wonder why they even opened a restaurant in the first place. I came in hungry and left angry, broke, and deeply disappointed. This place doesn’t just fail at Italian food — it fails at food, period. It’s a slap in the face to anyone who’s ever eaten real pasta or pizza. Save yourself the regret and eat anywhere else. Hell, a slice of toast at home would be a better use of your time and money.

Been dining here before the hype, and returned a couple of times before and after that crucial viral video that generated said hype about this place.

The food is good. Had the Spaghetti Vongole, Alla Marinara, Risotto Alla Marinara, and Carbonara. The pastas were pretty much how I like them; "Al Dente" and not drenched in sauce. The risotto was better although the second time I had it, there was a bit too much sauce in comparison to the rice. Not much to say about the carbonara; it was okay.

Food consistency is sometimes an issue, however, with the first time we tried the Pizza Vege being genuinely one of the best pizzas we have ever had, but the second time being much more ho-hum in comparison, due to it being quite different than what we remembered from the first visit.

Where this restaurant needs to make serious and major improvements critically is in operations and service; It's poor. Sometimes, very poor. The female managing the counter and occasionally attending customers is good and friendly, but the others seemed genuinely clueless, and almost half-asleep when on the job, with many of them also apparently being unaware about their own menu. Some of them aren't even aware they have a set lunch menu! 😅

To his credit, one of the owners, Sean, has been a great chap to converse with, and much of the suggestions I have personally shared have been implemented. However, a restaurant is more than just the food; the service plays a huge role in customer satisfaction. Poor service and operations can even make good food feel bland and disappointing as customers will have had their appetite disappear due to frustrations boiling up. Won't comment on the allegations of a subpar working environment, other than if this is the case, then it needs sorting out immediately as low morale will majorly impact the quality of service.

To conclude, is it worth returning? The fact that I've came and went 5 times as of writing sort of speaks for itself. But I should also stress that I dined here during one of the quieter periods of operations, where issues with the operations and whatnot aren't as apparent. If I have to give out an answer on whether one should come here as a "MUST VISIT", I'd say to wait until the hype settles and whatever issues have been addressed.

There's immense potential in this place due to the food and the fact that authentic Italian restaurants aren't very common around SS15. Best of luck to them and I hope they can address these operational issues effectively in a mutually...
