A Love Letter to Nyonya Flavours — Nyonya Love Café Review
Tucked away like a gem waiting to be savoured, Nyonya Love Café is a culinary time machine, transporting you straight into the vibrant heart of Peranakan heritage with every bite. My visit was nothing short of a flavourful celebration — a harmonious fusion of spice, soul, and storytelling on a plate.
I began my journey with the Pai Tee, those dainty golden hats of crisp pastry filled generously with julienned vegetables and a touch of sweet-savory magic. Each bite was a perfect crunch followed by a burst of freshness, elegantly balanced with the house-made chili sauce that gave it a bold yet graceful lift.
Next came the Nyonya Laksa, a bowl of pure comfort. The broth was rich and creamy, with coconut milk embracing the herbs and spices in a luscious swirl of flavour. It was neither too fiery nor too mellow — just the right amount of heat to warm your soul. The prawns were succulent, the noodles silky, and every slurp made you feel like home had a new postcode.
Then arrived the surprise hero of the meal: Mee Nyonya with Sambal Rojak. This dish was a festival of textures and contrasts — springy yellow noodles bathed in a tangy-spicy sambal gravy, paired with the funky crunch of rojak fruits and vegetables. It was bold, exciting, and unapologetically Nyonya.
To cool things down, I had the Cendol, which was an absolute showstopper. The gula Melaka was thick, fragrant, and smoky — not cloying, just beautifully layered — blending seamlessly with the rich coconut milk and slippery green pandan noodles. It’s the kind of dessert that makes you pause and savour life a little slower.
And just when I thought the experience couldn’t get any more refreshing, the Lemon Kasturi Ayu Jelly arrived. Light, zingy, and utterly rejuvenating, it danced on the palate with notes of citrus and a whisper of pandan, the perfect finish to a bold and beautiful feast.
Nyonya Love Café doesn’t just serve food — it serves memories, culture, and heart. If you’re craving authenticity with a side of warmth, this is the love letter to Peranakan cuisine you’ve been waiting to read — and taste.

Read moreThe Pai Ti were gossamer thin holding a savory jicama stuffing paired with the customary sour chili sauce that made each bite the perfect appetizer. The shells were perfectly crafted as I know how laborious it is to create them especially with the wide brim rarely seen these days.
The Laksa was full of spice flavor tempered by a not too thick coconut milk broth paired with the usual ingredients of prawns, fishballs, tofu puff, and boiled egg. The customary cucumber and sliced daum kesum were present that added the textural and herbal elements found in an authentic Melaka version.
The Ikan Masak Chili Garam reminded me of my grandmother's fried fish with a similar chili rempah carrying a tinge of sourness and belacan. The accompanying Chap Chai was a revelation with the use of ginger that lifted the usual flavors.
The key to a good Cendol is the noodles that should be well perfumed with pandan and possess the right springy texture which were present in this version. The coconut milk and gula melaka were the right consistency for the perfectly balanced slurp.
I brought home a few kuehs for later. Judging by the colors and detail, I can tell that they are "senonoh" and possessing care and attention. I'm looking forward to tasting them when my full stomach can find room.
The place filled up quickly with customers. There is no doubt that this popular place is a hit with many, and...

Early lunch on a Sunday morning. There is a numbering system. Need to write down your order on a piece of paper.
My go to for nyonya food is always the nyonya laksa or nasi lemak to gage how good / authentic the nyonya food is.
My verdict: Nyonya laksa - sorry but i really dont like the flavour in this bowl. The fresh ingredients flavour and ‘herbs’ flavour in this dish is not there. Tak wangi langsung. The mee hoon was overcooked. I usually will like ‘drink’ the kuah but this….nope. I didnt finish it at all. No si ham no fish came.
Roti jala with curry chicken - chicken is overcooked. So we ate ‘dried’ chicken. Good that potato is a lot but the flavour of the kuah is not there and so when you drench the roti jala with the curry - became tasteless. We had to get some flavour from the rendang instead. The roti jala, too compact. So when the mix is not cooked properly and when gulung like that, it tasted like eating raw pancake.
Rendang ayam - the only decent one with flavour. My 9yo child finished it!
Cendol - the santan is fresh. Tasted clean and not overly sweet. Quite ok.
Aiyu Jelly - refreshing. I liked it.
Kuih - the kuih all quite good.
