We ate at Hai Peng Kopitiam near the main road intersection 7 years ago. But they were closed on the day we came to Cukai.

So we went here. Customers queuing to get a table. We arrived nearly at 10:30 am. 15 minutes later we got a table. Service was quick & efficient.

My taste says that their coffee is good. But the roti kawin was not. Old Town's roti kawin tasted better. Nasi dagang is ok. Have tasted better ones. Pulut panggang is another kueh to try. The filling tasted yummy. They also serve ketupat palas, cakes to dip with coffee, etc.

Love their interior, so classic with their family memorabilia. If there weren't many people, I would have taken lots of photos.

I love the Cukai's vibes. Eating here feels the same as eating in a Kopitiam in Penang. Close by is an alley that has been transformed into an Instagrammable place.

Parking is a little difficult to get. If there is no roadside parking, better to park next to...

Came by at around 7am but too early as the water was still just being put to boil. Go opposite walk walk by the riverside. Around 7:30am the boss car parked and we went in to have our orders taken. We had:

1 peanut butter and kaya toast 1 french toast 1 cahaya bulan (kaya toast with soft boiled egg put on top) 1 coco lava 1 vienamese style kopi 1 bihun goreng

Total around RM 72. It's more like cafe than kopitiam, so prices also more ex. Even the daughter-boss (?) speak with angmoh accent. Coffee was quite nice. The toasts were fluffy and also slightly crispy at the rough surfaces. Overall quite nice.

Bihun goreng and the rest of the hot foods (nasi dagang, nasi lemak) came at around 8am. Bihun was so-so only.

Decor is quite cute. Got a lot of those retro poster and coffeeshop items from the past. There was a (too) friendly cat that hung around and was very persistent in rubbing itself...

This is the original Hai Peng coffee shop, previously sited at the junction corner street in Cukai, that was compelled to shift out due to increase in cost of rental. The uncle is now running a similar coffee shop at that corner. The original Hai Pen coffee shop is now located in a terrace shop lot a short distance from the junction on the right side of the road. They have their own Hai Peng brand coffee, a local coffee blend, and have the coffee powder in boxes of sachets for takeaway as well. Besides coffee, the crowd comes here for roti buns and toasts. In the morning, around 9am, they serves nasi lemak. There are also mee hoon and other offerings for the morning only. Prices...

Came here for a late light lunch. At first we were hesitant to enter due to the initial outlook impression of the place but since a few tables were occupied, we ventured inside regardless n placed our orders. Since this place is more of a light dining place, not much were present in terms of things to choose from. The nasi dagang n toast were quite good while the coffee drink was delicious in that it had the right balance of taste. Again, I would choose these types of coffee over S***b*cks or CBTL. Price wise a bit high comparatively.
