I recently visited Malé with a friend and came across Summer Cloud Restaurant, which turned out to be a fantastic spot with breathtaking views of the sea. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious, and I want to extend my gratitude to the chef for creating such a delightful dining experience.
Unfortunately, I had a disappointing interaction with one of the waitresses. While taking my order, there seemed to be a language barrier, which made communication a bit frustrating. I understand the restaurant was likely busy during rush hour, but her attitude came across as rude, and her facial expressions gave the impression that she was annoyed. I couldn’t catch her name, but I remember her name tag started with “E. What added to the discomfort was a male staff member in a blue shirt who seemed to be talking to her about my order. I overheard him say something along the lines of, “Tell him if you don’t have knowledge, don’t order the food.” While they may not have realized I could hear them, it was unprofessional and unnecessary. The two of them spent much of their time talking and laughing together, seemingly unaware of the customers.

The salmon was not prepared as it should be—overcooked to the point of being hard and dry, with the backside burnt. Instead of the naturally soft and tender texture that salmon is known for, it carried a strong smoky, almost bitter flavor from being charred. This overshadowed the delicate taste that one usually enjoys in a well-prepared fish dish. It can called waste of money.
On the positive side, the mashed potatoes and vegetables were done quite well—smooth, seasoned, and a pleasant complement to the plate. These sides showed that the kitchen is capable of delivering quality when care and attention are applied.
I believe that with more skilled handling, especially when it comes to delicate dishes like salmon, the restaurant could offer a much better culinary experience. Summer Club has all the right elements—a great setting, good service, and promising menu—but it truly deserves a kitchen that matches its potential.
