DATE (Art Café) — Restaurant in Cospicua

This place cannot be more recommended!

We stumbled upon this place literally by chance as we had no idea it existed and the first thing that caught out eye was the massive heart shapes straw bench with 2 people sitting on it as we walked the other two steps we instantly stopped and saw cushions laying on the ground in a beautiful square overlooking Birgu marina.

As we sat down to grab a drink, the very well-mannered barista (Thank you, Danny!), He welcomed us and politely took our order, and made sure we were sitting comfortably.

We were not planning on eating but we started glancing at the menu and the items on it really caught us by surprise. There is literally something for everyone! Until the lady Padron (Olga) came speaking to us with a smile and explained in detail the special of the day (which I could not say no to! Fish tartar!) and my partner took the empanadilla (which was divine).

The décor of the place is something that makes this experience amazing! Word of advice go around sunset time and stay till it gets dark to see the beautiful colors of this place change.

I can't thank Olga & Ivan enough for taking such good care of their clients and giving so much love to this place! Another praise I cannot fail to mention is the amazing staff that works there. You can see they do the work with a passion even under heavy pressure. The Date Art Cafe is situated close the the university section and is 2 min far from the ferry terminal to Valetta. In the morning you can sit in the narrow shady street, having breakfast there or you can sit on the stairs on some pillows watching the harbour by night or listening to some comfortable music or enjoy a live music performance there. The best think to check the event timetable is to ask the owners in person or check the Facebook homepage for more information.

The food and especially the cakes are delicious and come with acceptable prizes. Especially when hot outside, the non alcoholic fruit lemonade is a good welcoming refresher with ice.

The whole staff is really friendly, helpful and flexible. The waiting time when ordered something is the only thing why it has not 5 stars. This comes because, even in the morning with no customers around, it gets surprisingly long to get a order on the table. They recently totally reopened. We got paper menus and everything.

The mood was the best I've ever experienced at a restaurant. The muscicians were absolutely amazing. Two little kids came up and danced to the music. The lighting was so cozy and they had "I love you" written in so many different languages.

They forgot my sister's food. I informed our waitor, and he told her that she could wait 10 minutes for her salad to be done. She ended up cancelling it, because the rest of us were almost done with ours. I picked this restaurant for their high reviews and vegan options. They removed all vegan options. I had the Veggie Platter, because it was the closest thing they had to anything vegan. I was still served it with the non-vegan items on the plate. There was not enough protein on the plate for me. My dad and stepmother were not quite satisfied with their Mix platter. They also did not get enough protein. The mocktails were okay, not the best but not bad.
