Ta Tona Bar & Restaurant on the island of Gozo is a true gem, captivating not only with its beautiful and atmospheric ambiance but, most importantly, with its outstanding cuisine and professional service. Our visit to this place was unforgettable, and we will certainly return. From the moment we stepped inside, a unique atmosphere enveloped us – Ta Tona is a place with soul, inviting you to spend time in charming surroundings. But what truly captivated us were the culinary delights. We started with an aromatic fish soup, whose flavor transported us directly to the Maltese coast. Following that, we savored fresh and delicious oysters, which were perfectly prepared. The stars of the evening, however, were the main courses – barracuda and bazooka fish. Both fish were masterfully cooked, with perfectly balanced flavors and ideal textures. It's clear that Ta Tona prioritizes the quality and freshness of its ingredients. Everything paired wonderfully with the local white wine that was recommended to us, perfectly complementing every bite. The service also deserves special commendation. The waitstaff were incredibly professional, helpful, and discreet, which made us feel at ease and comfortable throughout the entire evening. Their knowledge of the menu and wines was impressive. In summary, Ta Tona Bar & Restaurant is a must-visit on Gozo's culinary map. If you're looking for a place that offers not only exquisite food but also an unforgettable experience in a unique atmosphere, we highly recommend it. It was a true feast...
Read moreThis was a busy restaurant each time we passed by, so we decided to eat here one night.
The first thing to note is that tables outside were close together - and seemed closer than the current rules for Malta. Certainly not 2m apart. At the other restaurants we'd eaten at, all staff wore masks. None of the staff wore masks here. The menus were also standard printed versions, rather than disposable paper or card. Putting that to one side, and the fact that one of the diners ate her whole meal with her dog on her lap, the food was good. Nice choice of daily seafood specials, as well as seafood on the regular menu, chicken, lamb, pasta etc. There was enough choice for everyone.
Food arrived at slightly different pace, with some minutes in between for each of us. This no doubt reflects the kitchen being busy with a lot of covers. The general busyness was also reflected in us not being asked if we wished desserts, coffee, or liqueurs, and why the diners on both sides of us eventually went inside to pay their bills - as did we.
So, to sum up, good food; slow service; minimal appreciation of covid19 risks compared to other restaurants; and...
Read moreWe stopped here by chance when there was a long queue for the ferry to Malta and we missed it; waiting a hour and a half for the next one we looked for somewhere to eat and stumbled upon Ta' Tona. The staff were lovely and welcoming and accommodated our need to be quick! We chose the Sea Bream and Sea bass, grilled. Both were delicious and clearly fresh. The house white wine was also good and very low priced. Service was excellent throughout and all the staff were friendly and smiley, whilst professional. The whole restaurant was small and pretty. It's always nice to see a historic place which has kept up with the times. The bread and pâté as an appetizer was a lovely touch. If we return to Gozo we'd definitely go back! Even though we found Ta' Tona by accident I'd be sorry to have missed it; if you get the...
