I'm always overjoyed when I discover vegan / plant-based restaurants on my travels and Balance Bowl did not disappoint. Located along the busy waterfront in Malta's Gżira neighborhood, Balance Bowl offers a variety of vegan dishes, with a decidedly Asian-fusion focus, each one creatively conceived and deliciously executed. I tried the Chef's Special of the day, empanada-style dumplings filled with spinach on a bed of mixed greens, edamame and pickled carrots, with a green tahini sauce. For my appetizer I ordered the BBQ jackfruit bao buns, which were really well-made and flavorful, as well as beautiful to the eye. I would have loved to have tried dessert but the portions were such that I had not room left. I highly recommend Balance Bowl for fresh, healthy and delicious food, with friendly, attentive service. I gave the atmosphere 3 stars only because I sat outside and the noise of the traffic - wheeled and foot - was sometimes more than I needed. Dining indoors would have been a better call for me. But the terrace is prime people-watching territory, if...
Read moreThis was by far my favourite space in Malta. Incredible food, beautiful and welcoming atmosphere, board games, great service, friendly, and fully vegan. The flavours were light and playful. The plates were so well put together and we sat surrounded by photos of amazing women and activists. This place is incredibly queer and my girlfriend and I were over the moon with the intersectionality here. We returned several times during our trip. Servers even came up to double check about allergies and replacements. The level of consciousness is amazing. Delicious burger, “calamari”, Buddha bowl, Bao buns, smoothies… They make a variety of drinks including white and dark hot chocolates. They're also one of the only vegan restaurants I’ve ever seen to be open late (until 10pm or later!) and they accept card. *It's buy one get one free meals after 3pm for #Veganuary!! Stop in of you can and def don't miss...
Read moreI wish I could move in here! I love everything about this place, from the excellent food to the sweet staff and the cozy atmosphere. Felt very welcomed and safe as they're LGBTQAI-friendly and honestly seem to care about their guests. We went there five-six times during our week in Malta, not becuase it was convenient but because it is a genuinly lovely restaurant. We tried most of the dishes on the menu and loved everything. (They serve the best iced coffee!) The interior is beautiful with pictures of influential women throughout western history, and their choice of women represent both people of color and LGBTQAI-women (Maya Angelou and Marsha P. Jonson for example). The music is chill and at a volume so one can chatt. It's so cozy and I'll definitely will be back next time I'm in Malta. Don't miss this place, it was the cherries (yes, plural) on top of...
