The staff at The Londoner are outstanding. They go above and beyond and you can tell they enjoy working there. We were welcomed with an early check-in at no extra cost, piping hot extra towels when we requested and they even helped us book a taxi for a vulnerable elderly couple who weren't staying at the hotel but were lost.
That was the reception team and as for the cleaning team they were wonderful too - we took our duvets off and used the thin sheets as we found it hot at night and they didn't re-apply the duvets, they put them in the cupboard and re-applied the thin sheets. This was a really nice touch as it would have been a pain to strip the duvets again.
Unfortunately I can't give the full five stars due to issues with the lighting.
The lighting in the bathroom was extremely dangerous. The light would go off at random times which meant sometimes one of us would be showering and it would go pitch black, we'd have to yell for help and the other one would have to switch it back on from the outside. I dread to think what would have happened if one of us had attempted to shower alone in the room. We wondered if it was on a timer so we tried to switch it on just before going in for a shower but that didn't work either, it would still turn off. We don't shower for more than 20 minutes so it shouldn't be turning off like that.
In the twin room itself, we weren't able to use our individual lamps. Only the main light was working which meant if one of us wanted to stay up to read or pack, the other would have to try and sleep with the main lights on or vice versa have the main lights off and the other one use a phone torch.
We should have informed the hotel staff of this feedback directly but we had such a busy itinerary we didn't have time - so please see this as best intent by including it in the review as it is a great hotel.
I'm from the UK and my UK plugs didn't fit the wall despite it being the same plug design. When I stayed at a different hotel in Malta they worked fine so wanted to flag this too. Thankfully there is a USB slot.
I would stay at this hotel again but I hope the lighting would be...

I don’t usually leave harsh reviews, but this hotel deserves one. The location is central and the rooms look nice—but the service, management, and maintenance were some of the worst I’ve experienced.
🛎️ False Room Promise
We booked and confirmed a high-floor room (13–14th floor), but were given a mid-floor room. Staff claimed the manager who confirmed it was no longer there and they hadn’t read the old messages. They said we could move rooms the next day. Then later, they said it would be after two nights.
📦 Room Change Nightmare
I packed everything and confirmed with reception that we’d be out during the day and they could move our things. When we returned—nothing had been moved. They said the new room wasn’t ready, that the system didn’t allow it, or that housekeeping wasn’t available. After almost an hour of arguing and waiting, and only reaching the manager via phone, they finally let us check the new room. No apology, no ownership of their mistakes.
🚿 Broken Shower & No Aircon
The new upper-level room had a clogged shower that flooded the floor, and the air conditioning didn’t work. Maintenance? Not available. No fix. No alternative room offered—even though rooms were clearly available online.
🔇 Not Soundproof
Despite advertising soundproof rooms, you can hear TVs from neighboring rooms, chairs dragging above you, and doors slamming constantly. The balcony is unusable due to the deafening music from downstairs.
❌ Unreachable Management
The manager was never present, only available by phone. The staff were apologetic but helpless, always blaming the system, schedules, or someone else.

Bottom Line: This hotel is beautiful on the surface, but behind it is total mismanagement, broken facilities, and fake promises. If you’ve already booked, cancel if you can. Plenty of better-run...
Read moreWe snagged a good deal on our sea view junior suite in the beginning of January. The room was clean, modern and comfortable.
The location is convenient with plenty of transportation links. There is a direct bus (X2) to the airport, although if you’re coming from the airport, that bus oddly doesn’t go through Sliema, so you’ll have to take two buses to reach the hotel.
Breakfast was good. There was a decent selection, enough to fuel your day, but eggs two ways (hard boiled and fried or scrambled) were the only hot option. It would be nice to have another hot item like sausages.
Staff was friendly and professional. They always greeted us in the reception area.
There were a few things I noted. The bathroom light appeared to be on a timer, since it would automatically turn off, sometimes after only five minutes or so. That was a mild annoyance. Additionally, there was hardly any counter space around the bathroom sink. We had to put our toiletries out on the desk. It can also get noisy at night due to the loud music from the bar downstairs. Luckily, the windows were quite soundproof. It probably helped that we were on the 9th floor, too.
My one bit of constructive criticism is about housekeeping. It would be helpful for guests to be informed that bath towels are not changed daily. One of the towels we were given had a small pinkish mark on it and a frayed edge, which is how I noticed this. We had this same towel during our stay. I’m all for being environmentally friendly and reducing water usage, but I’d prefer to not get my towel mixed up with my husband’s. Furthermore, housekeeping seemed a little careless or inconsistent with the other towels. There were two days when we were missing a hand towel and another day when we didn’t have the towel for the floor.
Despite this, we had a very pleasant stay and would...
