A place that worth visiting. If you walk on the island, it is not very good looking, rather dirty I'd say and ugly; but, as you pass the main gate, go right (not ahead) and go on on the curved street. On the right is the sea and the small boats that travel and at the end of the road there is the forth. You can enter it, in the main square, in the rooms but it might be closed and therefore be sure to check the days it is closed. Inside the forth you might get a feeling about how they lived in the past. They make a big fuss, a lot of pictures about how the Fort was before and how they restored it: good job I would say, bum Imy just not a big fun on how to restore a place. On the island be sure you have water with you and a hat to protect from the 🌞. There is nothing to buy on that island. I hope that when you read this post, in 2 years by now, they finish the restauration. Near the Fort, down stairs and to the left, you can spend a quiet moment, alone, just you...
Read moreFort Manoel, located on Manoel Island in Gżira, Malta, is an 18th-century star fort built by the Knights of St. John under Grand Master António Manoel de Vilhena. The fort was constructed in the 1720s and has served various military functions through history, including during the French invasion of Malta in 1798 and under British rule where it was involved in World War II. After a period of neglect, extensive restoration began in 2001, revitalizing the fort and allowing it to host public events and tours. The restoration efforts highlighted its rich historical narrative and architectural grandeur, preserving it as a key piece of Malta’s...
Read moreNobody's getting in to see the interior of the fort unless you're lucky enough to be in Malta the one or two times a year it's open to the public, or you're lucky enough to be invited to some exclusive, private event taking place inside. However, the exterior grounds of the Fort are the only relatively large open air recreational space left to the residents of Sliema, Gzira etc. It's a great place to walk and swim but make sure you bring water, snacks and some kind of shade as there's no shops or retail of any kind on Manoel Island after you've walked over the bridge and past Paparazzi. What will become of the Fort and it's grounds once it is finally developed is unclear, but it's an exceptional place with fantastic views over to Valletta and well...
