Trattoria Shichiria シ — Restaurant in Marsaxlokk

After loads of great reviews through word of mouth from friends and family, I had very high expectations and Shichiria surely delivered. Having worked in the food service industry prior to retail, I understand how amazing food and impeccable customer service can turn a good evening into a great one.

We started by ordering drinks and as wine was my poison of choice I asked to see what selection they offered. It was pleasing to see that all wines came from Sicily, which is not only where the owners originate from but also has special links to the restaurants' name. As they didn't have my usual choice I asked the bartender for his recommendation and after asking a few questions so as to find out what my tastes were, the bartender recommended a 72 Filara Inzolia. It's great to note that you have a choice of a glass or bottle which not all restaurants in the area do.

After drinks came, the hard decision of food had to be made. Offering a choice of Sushi, Poke Bowls and Pizza, I ended up making a decision on the Chicken Poke Bowl.

Not only is the Poke bowl nutritious and not as sinful as some other dishes in was absolutely divine with an explosion of flavour and texture in every mouthful from the first to the last. The party I was with had ordered Pizza along with the Flambé Sushi rolls. All ingredients were fresh and not a fault could be found in any of the dishes. Portion sizes were also healthy.

We were offered drinks regularly and checked up on which made the evening ever more pleasant.

Horrendous place with abysmal service. We waited for our sushi for almost 1 hour (!). After we kindly asked if our food would be ready soon the response we got was "Yes I think it's ready", however no-one bothered to bring it to our table (!). Waiter seemed to be more focused on talking to his girlfriend than to customers.

However the cherry on the cake was when we got the bill. It was a total mess, nothing was correct: wrong food, wrong drinks. Things that we didn't order were on the bill. Sushi that we ordered wasn't on our table, instead something totally different was brought to us. The response we got was "well that's what you ate". Well that's not what we asked for. And if you can't memorize an order: there's no shame in using paper and pen. Waiter said he would give us a partial refund in cash for the wrong food, and then his colleague came with the card machine and wanted to do some card transaction/card refund on a debit card...

Terrible place, cannot recommend it to anyone. There are many nice restaurants close-by with good service , but certainly...

We spent 11 days in Marsaxlokk and every day we had our dinner in Shichiria. The food was absolutely delicious and we tried pretty much everything. Pizza was absolutely delicious (made traditional sicilian way) and we tried sushi first time in our life which was absolutely amazing and we became new fans of sushi and all that thanks to Shichiria! Thank You for opening our eyes! The burger was the best burger i have ever tried!!!! Every single meal was fresh and delicious. But what makes Shichiria absolutely exceptional is staff, they all are extremly friendly and they go extra mile to make sure you enjoy their delicious food and you feel comfortable! I felt really sad during our last meal there cause i already knew i will miss this place. I just want to say massive thank you to all of the stuff.
