Marsaxlokk on a Sunday morning is a big confusion of market stalls, local shoppers, curious tourists and slow moving traffic. During summer, the sweltering heat is an extra challenge. We kept this in mind when we booked lunch in one of the many restaurants on the sea front. Unfortunately, we cancelled the first place we booked since it had no indoor space as we had specifically asked for and so we left right away trying to find some other place that could take us in at short notice. Luckily we came across this restaurant by chance and decided to check it out. When we walked in around noontime, it was still fairly empty. We were warmly welcomed and invited to sit at one of the coolest tables, right under the aircon. A great relief indeed. The meal was really enjoyable. The menu is more daring and original than most other restaurants. There is an interesting selection of starters. We chose rice croquettes stuffed with black squid ink and another type of sweet potato croquettes stuffed with fish. Main dish was a lovely large fish simply baked with herbs and lemon. Cooking was spot on. The croquettes were delicious and the fish was simply melting in the mouth. All dishes came well presented. The desserts were especially a hit with us and were a prefect ending to a perfect meal. Price for a 3 course meal for two with a bottle of water came to EUR 90. Average price for a fish meal in Marsaxlokk. For the rest, the waiters were polite but looked more and more stressed as more clients arrived (there was a queue outside when we left!). They initially forgot to get us bread but this was later noticed and put right. The toilets were fairly clean though soap was missing from the dispenser. In conclusion, yes we will certainly return....most probably during the week when the situation is calmer.

I've been to this restaurant multiple times now, and each time I've left feeling absolutely satisfied. This place has truly mastered the art of fresh, flavorful food and exceptional service. First off, the food. Every dish I've had here has been bursting with flavor and made with fresh ingredients. You can tell that the chefs take pride in their craft and put care and attention into every dish. Everything has been delicious and beautifully presented. But what really sets this restaurant apart is the service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely seems to care about making sure every guest has a great experience. They're knowledgeable about the menu and always willing to offer recommendations or answer questions. And despite the fact that this place can get quite busy, I've never felt rushed or neglected. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good food and great service. It's clear that the owners and staff are passionate about what they do, and that passion really shines through in every aspect of the dining experience. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

We walked past this place heading for the beach nearby and thought we could stop there for lunch because it looked far less touristic than all the other places. The atmosphere was perfect, with good music and a nice table setting, not to mention the view. We opted for a platter to be shared: pasta with red shrimp and pistachios, octopus and fried squid. The waiters were professional and helpful: despite not being English nor Italian they knew the names of all the fish in English and Italian too. There’s not a single thing we didn’t like about this place and would recommend it over and over again. The bill was aligned with other restaurants we have visited during our stay but the quality of the food and the taste of the dishes was definitely higher. You should definitely try the red shrimp and pistachio pasta: I was skeptic about ordering pasta abroad but this one was heaven!

Hard to score it with 2 stars Here are my reason: 1. The manage never, never spoke to me, never. Asked me me it I was having a nice experience (which I was until he appeared on the scene) 2. I (again about the manager) experienced a situation where my amazing waiter was ordered to do something to me “set the table for the fish”… again not saying nicely at all…tbh very gross. 3. Scene wise: spectacular ! I have to be honest. Amazing experience with the ocean, the boats, the fishermen! Unique 4. The food….mmmm goood it was definitely goood…however! I’m gonna be strict on this one… I was expecting moooooore. I’m. It saying it was bad. Was good! But my expectations based on the history of the place… Hopefully the manager can be more approachable, more charming, more human in general because the place has a lot of potential 5. The music was amazing!

Pretty average! Chose here out of the various Marsaxlokk options based on reviews and a few other bits of feedback. Service was a bit spotty for a quiet Monday night, was not provided any bread (maybe it’s not complimentary? But I was given a bread plate and knife and all the other tables had a bread basket), had to ask for the bill twice and there was confusion with bringing the card machine - all in all it took 25 minutes for me to ask for the bill to finally pay which meant I missed my bus. Food was ok, prawns were a bit over cooked as I think you can tell from the photo. Unsure if there’s better options in Marsaxloxx - it was my last night there on holiday so wouldn’t be able to say if this was a one off subpar experience! Reasonable prices tho and great views tho.

Hidden gem out of the way from the usual busy tourist trap restaurants which are like a quick conveyor belt in Marsaxlokk. Harbour by Johann is a lovely restaurant right by the water and beautiful views of the fishing village. Bivek took very good care of us, he was very friendly, accommodating and made us feel welcome at the restaurant. We had mussels with a side of fries as well as the brie starter. The mussels with clams were very tasty and juicy, lots of delicious sauce to dip your chips and bread in afterwards! Drinks were great as well as the affogato martini - which we highly recommend to try! 🍸 Thank you Bivek and the team at Harbour by Johann 🫶
