I have been the client of this restaurant for more than 4 years now. Everything was smooth until they started making deliveries and became more and more distant from client contact when they stopped the dine in possibility. I started sensing negativity when I expressed once a preference and the chef tried to turn it into a request for supplement. Wolt made the mediation back then and they found out I was right and requested him to fulfil my demand without charging an additional fee. Another time I asked him to put a different sauce to a sandwich that I like and he canceled my request saying he cannot do that. I repeated the order several times on Wolt but he kept canceling it though it was simpler to just fulfil my request. It was such a shame that instead of being client centric, he chooses to display authority while sacrificing client satisfaction. I find it is a form of betrayal. Moreover, by behaving so, he is destroying his own business. Of course you can always find people who would consume silently and never say anything but by taking advantage of that to silence others, you become an opportunistic element in society, not someone contributing to cohesion in society and especially not a loyal ambassador to the country from which your foreign food originates. Yesterday was the peak of negative attitude when I ordered a starter for take away. I interacted with the employees present there but then the Chef stepped in while I was waiting for my order and referred to another order I made a month ago (Thyme and cheese Saj) through Wolt where I asked that an item be prepared with additional olive oil which he refused to do. I did not comment back then , giving him the credit that may be for practical reasons he cannot do that though I was not convinced but I did not want to open an argument with a stubborn person again. However yesterday when he chose to talk about that, he told me that the issue was he uses another oil, not olive oil. If this was the excuse why didn't he suggest back then to add another type of oil? I asked him directly if he can add another oil but he refused to reply. Then without caring about what I really wanted and what the reason of my dissatisfaction is, he got into explaining another excuse. It is just disgusting how he is ready to make such an effort to reject a simple request instead of simply making the client feel comfortable. I explained to him that previously there would be more oil in the Saj preparation and that I simply would like it to be with the quality I got used to. But he kept telling me " I am not asking your opinion" and this is where it became obvious that his intention was to release a frustration he had in him from the fact I expressed dissatisfaction from his service on Wolt application. That was a moment of peak arrogance. It proves that this guy just handles a product but does not care about handling a client. He is just so attached to his recipes thinking he is selling something from heaven, got emboldened by kind reviews and considers any criticism as a matter of ego.
Since your place is called "Olive house", you should consider using olive oil in your Thyme Saj recipe instead of sunflower oil. Otherwise just call yourself "Sunflower house".
Edit: Note how the owner's reply labels inconvenient remarks about his attitude as "irrelevant". On top of that he calls my requests "strange", which illustrates his judgmental and confrontational attitude which is contradictory with the suggestion to reach out directly in his reply. The reply on the burger incident is not sincere because I reduced the change from three to one but he still refused the order. Latest incident with Olive oil: the response is illegitimate because he refused to listen. I referred to paper being soaked with olive oil to express previous satisfaction as opposed to now where the Saj is dry and requires additional oil. He understood it otherwise because he did not care to listen. As you see they just express surprise while maintaining the same behavior that will keep...
Read moreWe were quite disappointed with the food in Malta until we found the Olive House. Unlike some of the other restaurants/takeaways, it's a hidden gem tucked away not far from the main high street.
Both my 12 and 6 year old sons loved the food here (and so did my husband and I). My oldest son even asked if we could come back to Malta in future just to eat at the Olive House, while my youngest showed his love for the food at the restaurant by completely finishing his meal (this is saying a lot because he hardly ate anything in the other restaurants prior to this).
The staff were lovely and even offered to make a kids meal (of grilled chicken and chips which was not on the menu) for my youngest for less than half the price of the a main chicken dish.
We tried the Shish Tawouk, Chicken Shawarma Sizzler, Shawarma Steak Sizzler plus the kids meal over 2 days and thought they were all cooked to perfection and delicious! Would have loved to try some other dishes if we had more days in Malta (or found the restaurant at the beginning of our holiday).
We'll definitely be coming back to Olive House when we next come...
