Filipino food has always stuck with me since I had first tried it while traveling through the islands. I couldn’t resist getting a fix after seeing Pinoy Street Food pop up on my map. The menu surprised me with a few dishes I was nostalgic for. I ended up going with the sisig as that’s something you cannot order for takeaway with the hot grill. I enjoyed that it was in a food court setting yet ambiance felt upscale/modern, meals were ordered at the counter and can order a drink from a separate bar while waiting for the buzzer. When my order came up, I was warned the stone grill would be hot but I didn’t realize hot enough that if left too long, the sisig could burn (my bad for taking longer with photo ops). Regardless, it was tasty and had the various parts of pork bits that make up the traditional dish which I wouldn’t usually get somewhere else. I was impressed by the meal that I later ordered the pork belly Bicol Express and Kare Kare to go. The Kare Kare was okay but the Bicol Express was outstanding. I’m not an expert on authenticity but it was the closest version I’ve had outside of El Nido within Philippines I’ve tried that made me first fall in love with this...
Read moreReally delicious and reasonably priced Filipino food. The portion sizes were decent too. I loved the texture of the sizzling squid (pusit) fresh from Malta's rich waters. The sauce of the sizzling squid was savoury and had a bit of a spicy kick to it that would make you want more. The chicken adobo was also excellent, had a perfectly balanced flavour profile and the chicken itself was very moist. The sisig is a must-try and the pancit is affordable.
The lumpia was really crispy and juicy and the sweet chilli sauce really suits it well. The jasmine rice was also cooked perfectly. The service was also very quick and the staff were friendly. I highly recommend this place. In my opinion, Pinoy Street Food is a real gem in the heart of Valletta.
The original review was written in 2019 and I was one of the first ones to review the business. We went back here recently too (April 2022). The food was even better than how we originally remembered it and we’re glad to see the business is thriving. It’s also great to see that Pinoy Street Food is getting consistently high...
Read moreI disagree with reviews that say they lack that authentic Pinoy taste. At some level they have to appropriate some flavors for the local food-goers and for the plethora of tourists that pass by. They simply can’t just cook for the Pinoy palate because non-Filipinos dine here too.
Having considered that, I found the food to be great! Is the sinigang as sour it is in the islands? Naaah, but it’s a great adjustment to cater to their local market. I got the sisig and the flavors were great. The texture at the bottom is crunchy from the hot plate and when you mix the entire dish — it is heavenly.
Lastly the staff inside are “BISDAK” - which means extra level of customer service and hospitality. If you don’t know what bisdak is… that’s on you to find out! :)
I recommend this place if you’re craving those Pinoy...
