We chose to dine at Makaoapo after eating across the courtyard from it the night before. We arrived at Makaoapo and were greeted not like customers, but like family by a smiling employee. He introduced himself as Ramtano Atillio. We could sense by his pleasant demeanor we were in for a treat.
The entire evening was an unforgettable dining experience marked by warm hospitality, fresh flavors, and world-class service that sets a gold standard for Mauritius.
We were seated by Ramtano Atillio, who immediately set the tone with his professionalism, friendliness, and attentiveness. He took the time to understand what each person in our group was in the mood for, offering suggestions for both our meals and drinks. His knowledge of the menu was impressive, and it was clear he wanted us to have the best possible experience. You could feel his pride in what Makaoapo offers and rightly so.
The shared space among a sushi restaurant and other businesses allows for a vibrant yet relaxing atmosphere. A real highlight of the night was seeing Keith, the incredible bartender, behind the bar once again. Having previously experienced Keith’s talent for cocktails at the sushi restaurant in the complex, we were delighted to know he bartends across the venues. His handcrafted drinks are balanced, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
Now, let’s talk about the fresh seafood meal we were presented with.
We ordered the Makaoapo Platter, a mouthwatering arrangement that promised a taste of the ocean, and it absolutely delivered. While it typically includes lobster, it was missing that night; however, the kitchen more than made up for it with generous substitutions. The added seafood wasn’t just filler it was some of the freshest, most flavorful seafood.
What tied everything together was the Mauritius sauce (forgot the name), but it is passed down through generations of Mauritius families. It is a rich but light, savory, local creation that serves as a blanket to the seafood, rice, and corn in flavor. It elevated every bite to something truly memorable. Every element on the tae was thoughtfully seasoned and cooked well, a testament to the skill of the kitchen staff.
From start to finish, the evening was seamless, delicious, and comforting. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh seafood, a well-crafted cocktail, or simply want to be taken care of by kind staff who clearly love what they do, Makaoapo is the place.
Without hesitation, I will return here every time I’m in Mauritius, whether on vacation or once I settle in more permanently. The food, service, and overall experience at Makaoapo are a shining example of the island’s culinary and cultural charm.
