Located in the heart of Port Louis on Deforge Street, this Chinese restaurant offers a unique dining experience. Situated on the first floor, it’s accessible only by stairs, but the climb is worth it. As soon as you step in, you’re greeted with a warm "salam" from the server, who promptly shows you to your table.
The menu features a variety of dishes, and during our visit, we sampled the stew chicken, stew beef, and mutton dumplings. The stews were decent, with a homely taste, and the mutton dumplings stood out with their delicate flavor. One of the highlights of the meal was their handmade pulled noodles. These noodles are a must-try, with a texture and taste that clearly show the effort put into making them.
The food is Halal very rare to find a halal chinese restaurant around.
The restaurant goes beyond just serving food; it caters to the needs of its diverse clientele. For those observing their faith, there’s a prayer room available, which is a thoughtful addition. The restaurant is also nikaby friendly, ensuring comfort and privacy for all guests. For patrons seeking a more secluded dining experience, there is a dedicated area that offers discretion and a quieter ambiance.
In summary, this Chinese restaurant in Port Louis is more than just a place to eat; it’s a welcoming spot that respects and caters to the needs of its customers. With decent food, particularly their pulled noodles, and thoughtful amenities, it’s a good choice for a satisfying meal in the...
Read moreI was reluctant to try Gansu Barakah as usually I am not keen to try Chinese food in all kinds of restaurants. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised! 😁 The food was so flavorful and every bite was just so good!
We had the mutton dumplings which were exquisite (especially with the chili oil 😍). They were filled with a very nice meat farce. We had beef stew noodles, stir fried potatoes- which was such a nice discovery, as well as fried chicken noodles. The fried noodles is nothing like Mauritian fried noodles but it’s so good.
I also want to highlight that as a Muslim woman who wears niqab (face veil) we got a private table to have diner. The server was very respectful and would make sure he can come in every single time he had to come serve us a dish. It is very rare to find such restaurants in Mauritius.
Overall, I do not regret giving this restaurant a try. Definitely...
Read moreWow, what an amazing restaurant! We got cucumber salad and Pak choi for starters and got beef noodles(no spice) and tomato and beef noodles mild spice. There was chilli oil to accompany us on the table so I did add some... fantastic taste.
Everything was delicious, my only two regrets are that I didn't also add the mutton dumplings to our order as they are highly rated and that I won't be back in Port Louis to come back :( and eat more of this delicious food.
The owner was kind and attentive. Thank you for your hospitality and I wish you and your family all the success that...
