Look, I’ve been to many McDonald’s in my life before, but this really has to be the best experience I had. First, the staff were quite nice, even though I spoke no French and apparently they didn’t speak English. The lady at the cash register was so kind as to fill up my water bottle with a smile, something one can only imagine in Amsterdam. The food was the usual quality, but again the waitress who brought it was nice and kindly expressed her wish for my having a great meal. Now, I know what I wrote is nowhere near shocking behavior for personnel in the average European restaurant, but let’s not forget that this is a McDonald’s in one of the most touristy places in a European capital. However, the next part is even more surprising as the toilets were easily the CLEANEST I have seen in a McDonald’s. Heck, you could even use the closet for a number 2 if you wanted, and what shocked me the most was that anyone could use them without charge, even passers-by. This means that the toilets must be cleaned very regularly. Anyhow, I think this is enough rambling for...
Read moreI'm amused that the "owner" has described this franchise as having a drive-through window and an outdoor playground! It would be great if they did have charging stations for electric cars, but don't expect a parking spot around here at all.
It's McDonalds... does it really need a review? It's junk, but we all wind up there at some point. This particular franchise has interesting hours, competing in the "late night post-drinking session food" market which is becoming prevalent in this area. That also means that late at night the amount of obnoxious drunk idiots hanging around the place is a big detraction.
At this franchise, expect the queues to be long but reasonably efficient, the burgers to be slapped together and the fries cold. At least you can go back and get fresh ones if you ask, but they'll also be cold. Expect to pay a ridiculously high "madam-pipi" charge if you want to use the filthy toilets (it may actually be cheaper to use the public toilet on the square).
I don't know why we put ourselves through this. Oh yeah - the food is...
Read moreI normally wouldn't review a fast food joint because McDonald's is McDonald's. The food is the same and the service is you get what you get. But just did want to call out that I stopped by around 10 AM on Saturday, and realized they serve lunch all day! None of the breakfast items appealed to me. We have the same items at home (United States) and the one item I would want to try (burger on an English muffin), I had already just tried a Paris a few days prior and didn't care for. But I saw some lunch items I would try that were available at that hour, like the Samourai chicken and Samourai cheese, which is what we ordered. Both were good, with a slight Belgian twist. But I am biased towards McDonald's. Even bad McDonald's is still better than no McDonald's at all. Just the menu availability alone...
