This is a real hidden gem! Like many of the great Mexican restaurants I have discovered over the years, Mermelada has no curb-appeal. From the outside, it looks like a drop-off laundry business. Parking was impossible, too, but... everything else was spectacular! From the attentive staff to a simple coffee through the gourmet breakfast, nothing was less than excellent. It was a cool day, so we chose to eat outside with a few others. It felt like dining on a friend's veranda. I have posted photos of the meal, but I can not remember the names of the dishes. They were essentially versions of French toast and sope, but to call them this really diminishes the quality and effort that went onto them. Unlike some high-end places, they did NOT take too long. The waiting between coffee and the meal was perfect, and the staff never made us feel rushed. This is probably the BEST breakfast experience I have had in Mexico in 20 years, and the last was in the Polanco neighborhood in Mexico City. The prices were "high" for local eats but NOT for the total experience. The price was less than an average breakfast in the hotel zone, and the quality SO, SO MUCH MORE! Just go, and you will...
Read moreI had always drove by the restaurant and wondered why there's so many vehicles parked outside and so I finally decided to check this place out. The front staff are very warm + welcoming, the waiters are charismatic.
But here's where things don't quite match my expectations of greatness. Two plates of ours each had a fruit fly on them (my chilequiles + the free deep fried bread + jam). Not a big deal.. but out of the four of us, only one really liked their meal. The food is presented in a way where things look better than it tastes. The side of beans they gave with the chilequiles was not good at all. The biscotti served with the coffee wasn't fresh, the eggs were overcooked/dry but looked pretty. Very instagramable food.
Price wise, you're paying more for the experience rather than what goes in your stomach. With drinks + one plate each, it came to roughly 1000 pesos. I'd be hesitant to return based on there being better choices in this...
Read moreI found this place by a chance as I was googling for a place to have breakfast. From the moment we stepped into the cafe to the time we left I felt very pleasant atmosphere. Renata was our host, very sweet girl and a nice smile. I shared with her that my sister and I were from Russia and she even knew few words. And later on she brought me cute little note. I enjoy little details and moments like this. Our waiter was also very nice, helpful and beautiful, her name is Carla. If you request her you won’t regret and she will make sure you have a pleasant experience here. Having breakfast at this place set a wonderful mood for our day. I had “Granda for grandpa” dish and my sister ordered “doctor eggs” (it is a surprise dish from chef). Everything tasted good. Presentation of the food was beautiful and the outside area is very nice. Family friendly, so next time I am bringing my kids here.
Thank you for doing a wonderful job in...
