Damajuana Mezcaleria Bacalar — Restaurant in Bacalar

We came here twice on our trip to Bacalar. In just a short time we could tell this place was special. It was open air and right on the Lagoon.

The owner Oscar welcomed us in for their New Year's Eve 5 course dinner which was just amazing. Every course was so unique and full of flavor. We came back the following day to have sushi at his restaurant Nao which is kind of a joint venture with Damajuana. We also did a mezcal tasting. It worked out perfectly because Oscar asked if he could join us for dinner while we did the tasting so for 2 hours we enjoyed some of the best sushi I've ever had while trying and learning about these special and delicious mezcals. Oscar's father works with him and he is one of the kindest people we've ever met. He treated us as if we were Oscar's childhood friends or something!

Oscar is an expert. His experiences with some of the women that make the mezcals are so interesting to listen to and he is passionate about what he does.

We can't wait to return to Bacalar and when we do we will be going right back to Damajuana to visit with Oscar and his father. See you...

This place was great! We had amazing food. There was a great vibe and cool people that pulled through after dinner for drinks. The highlight was the mezcal tasting we did and learnt all about the history of mezcal and what we tasted was completely different to the mezcal we are used to in Europe. I never knew I needed avocado in my drinks. The Bacalar cocktail is delicious. The bartenders are super talented and if you're lucky Oscar, the owner, will stop to chat and give you a master class in mezcal tasting.
