My experience at Nao Bacalar was quite a mixed bag, with some dishes shining while others left something to be desired. I started my meal with the double salmon sushi roll, and I must say it was truly a highlight of the dining experience. The combination of flavors and textures in this roll was outstanding, and I particularly enjoyed it with the addition of avocado. The freshness of the salmon and the creaminess of the avocado created a delightful harmony in each bite. It's a dish I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Nao Bacalar.
Next, I tried the salmon sashimi, and I was equally impressed. The quality of the salmon was exceptional, and it practically melted in my mouth. The presentation was also noteworthy, with the sashimi slices beautifully arranged and served with care.
However, when it came to the tuna and octopus sashimi, I didn't find them as remarkable as the salmon. While they were certainly not bad, they didn't quite reach the same level of excellence. The flavors were decent, but they didn't leave a lasting impression. In a place like Nao Bacalar, where seafood is expected to shine, I had hoped for a more memorable experience with these particular sashimi options.
On the bright side, the service at Nao Bacalar was absolutely top-notch. The staff was not only attentive and efficient but also extremely friendly. Their warm and welcoming demeanor added a lot to the overall experience. The speed at which they attended to the guests' needs was impressive, and it made the dining experience even more enjoyable.
In conclusion, Nao Bacalar offers a mixed experience, with some dishes standing out as truly exceptional, while others fall a bit short of expectations. The double salmon sushi roll and salmon sashimi are clear winners and a testament to the quality of the seafood. While the tuna and octopus sashimi didn't quite reach the same level, they were still enjoyable. The outstanding service provided by the friendly and efficient staff was a definite highlight of the visit. Overall, it's a restaurant with potential, and I would be open to trying more of their offerings...
Read moreI live in Bacalar and used to like Nao. I came back after a few months not being in town and will never go there again unless they change the quality of food and the management! I am reading some bad reviews because of bad similar experiences in the past months so I guess the problem has to do with the actual team…
Way too expensive food for what they deliver!!! I couldn’t find the veggies in my rice, tiny pieces of fish totally overcooked and the smallest portions….one of us also received the wrong drink but we didn’t even say anything after this:
The worst part was the customer service: I asked politely to check if the tea they used was maybe rotten/old because it tasted old, had a metallic taste and there was foam on it. I first thought they used tap water. There were 2 other people seconding the bad taste. I didn’t even ask to put it off the tab, just to check so they won’t use it for other guests. The girl from the bar came and her answer was to snap at me and suggest I should order a bottle if I don’t trust that they use fresh water. She got pretty rude so we paid and left as the other waiter started to snap at us too. Unbelievable!!! If a customer tells you there is clearly something off you listen, stay polite and the minimum you can do is just check if everything is ok. I was reading similar complaints about the staff and food quality in this restaurant so please do something about it! I was pretty sad when I got home and I never experienced such a behavior from a waiter or restaurant manager. We will not go there again and enjoy the super nice people in the other restaurants that Bacalar offers.
Ps. The only light in the dark was a blonde waitress, I think she was from Germany. Very nice person, thank you for trying your best in...
Read moreThe sushi is fine, the service is really bad. We waited more than 1 hour for two sushi rolles. The guests around us were also stressed about that. So, if you don't have any planes for the evening and want to lose a lot of time waiting, go for this place. Moreover, one waiter was very unfriendly and replied "que pasa?" to us, just because we were waving our hands to draw attention to us (it was the one with the bun). The female waiters were quite friendly though. In general, it was super hard to get any waiter to the table. No one was ever catching eye contact with us. If you order food here, order everything at once and make sure to ask for the bill at the first order (not kidding). The location and the music was very fine, it's a shame that the wait was above average, even more Mexican standards. You may get your shushi faster if you show up before prime...
