Great restaurant! My wife and I had lunch at Chatos during our visit to San Jose Del Cabo, and the experience was wonderful. We had spent all morning buying gifts in the arts district, and stopped at the restaurant for some lunch. I asked the waitress if they took credit cards, and she said regretfully no. I left my wife at the restaurant and ran up the street to use the atm. I had not notified my bank of my out of country travels, so my debit card was declined! Oh well I thought we'll have to go elsewhere, but when I returned to the restaurant my wife had already ordered a corona. Well I had $2 American to cover the corona but felt terrible over not being able to order. The owner/manager came to the table and said no worries. The restaurant next door was closed, and he would use there credit machine for our payment and we could eat and enjoy another beer. Thank God! I was so relieved! I ordered the sea bass taco special, and my wife ordered the chicken tacos, and both were delicious. The sea bass was by far the best taco I've had, and the service was amazing. I will definitely be back my next...

We ate lunch across the street and thought it was good. Tonight we came back to eat there and decided to look at nearby restaurants. I was reluctant to eat at Chatos because of the zealousness for us to come dine. However, I was quietly surprised: we had the fish tacos (best I have had in a long time), shrimp fajitas and enchiladas with red sauce were also good. Everything was excellent, reasonably priced and service was good. I don't give reviews but was quietly impressed. I filled out the above review prior to being given our bill and initially provided a 5 star for food. Our bill was 740 pesos. When I paid in dollars he told me the total was $44. Today's exchange is 19.76. He gave me 16 pesos on the dollar exchange. I would come back again but only if I had pesos, as I lost nearly $7 in his exchange. Only giving 3 stars because this soured my experience and I have not received this bad of an exchange...
Read moreVery average offerings with above average prices. Portion sizes not commensurate with pricing (quite meager actually). Food just OK, with marginal Mexican authenticity.
Our entire group still felt hungry after our breakfast and we are fairly moderate eaters…would not recommend if your appetite is accustomed to more generous portions. Most any American-based Mexican restaurant would have a 50% larger portion size and run you 20-25% cheaper…nuts.
Aguas frescas are pricey & it’s billed on a refill basis. Funny, Mexico has embraced American tipping practices/expectations, but won’t honor a refill on an overpriced bulk refreshment without charging you.
Service was good and they offer free parking across the street which will save you a few bucks.
Overall, I would suggest to explore further into San Jose’s interior downtown area as this restaurant is at a tourist gateway. Shouldn’t have to pay nearly $90 USD for a few non-alcoholic drinks, yogurt/fruit bowl, 6 eggs combined, and few droppings of refried...
