My partner and I were in San Jose del Cabo for a week, and kept walking by Cuervo's House. We're not drinkers, so we kept passing, but it did intrigue us. On our last night there were no big crowds, so we decided to give it a shot. The door was locked even though we saw a family of 6 having dinner. "Maybe it's a private event," we thought, but the chef came over and unlocked the door. “Podemos cenar aqui?” He happily welcomed us in. Our table had an adorable mini keg; the ambience was cozy, and the energy of the place relaxed and happy.
We ordered some non-alcoholic drinks and a variety of dishes. My cactus-based drink was not as flavorful and spicy as I'd hoped, but they were happy to remix it for me. My partner's drink, however, was super delicious. These were off-menu variations on their cocktails, so if you're not a drinker, just tell them what kind of flavors you like and they'll sort you out with something you like.
Each dish was yummy, but the standouts were the fondue cheese appetizer, and the soups. My partner's tortilla soup was -delicious-, but my spinach soup was truly mind-blowing. Just a few bites in I knew: this was the best soup I had ever had, period.
During our dessert Jorge Cuervo, the grandson of José Cuervo himself, came to chat with us. He asked what brought us here, and we told him it was a happy accident. I asked why it was so empty, given the top quality of the drinks and food; turns out they're usually not open to the public and mainly do private events and reservations. We got special treatment! After paying, he personally showed us around, as the "restaurant" is also an event venue and dance hall. It was amazing!
Our experience at Cuervo's House was truly a special and memorable occasion, and I...
Read moreIn a word: spectacular. Cuervo’s house has incredible authentic Mexican food and top notch service.
This restaurant is located a five minute walk from the town centre Plaza Mijares in San Jose del Cabo. It has an authentic feel with its exposed brick walls, wooden tables and colourful design.
The owner, Jorge Cuervo, is a direct descendant from Jose Cuervo, the well known tequila brand, and also specializes in tequila tastings. His family’s history going back 11 generations is up on the way and he took the time during dinner service to humbly describe his family roots and their cultural impact on tequila in Mexico. Jorge and his staff were kind and considerate. This meal felt more like we had been invited to his family home than eating out!!
The food here is spectacular. The food is authentic Mexican, not Mexicali. The menu has recipe that have come from his family, and many of the servers are family members. The Mexican platter was a huge assortment of food - chile relleno, tamales, sopes, enchiladas, tacos and steak with guacamole on the side - we would highly recommend it! We got multiple for the group. The other dish of special mention was the Ajillo octopus which was plated beautifully and had perfect texture and seasoning.
We will definitely be coming back again. Thank you Jorge for such a wonderful New...
Read moreMy friends and I were looking for a memorable meal in San Jose del Cabo and we definitely found it! Cuervo's House was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The format of the restaurant is that they only seat 3-5 tables per night so that they can focus on their customers and that is exactly what happened. The food is authentic Mexican cuisine with many of the recipes being Cuervo family recipes. Our hosts were very accessible and friendly. For the food, we started with shrimp ceviche which was delicious. Then my friends had the shrimp in a red sauce prepared in a molcajete. The molcajete is a large cast iron pot with legs that is heated then the ingredients are placed in the pot to cook--very good and very interesting! I had the octopus which was the best that I have every had--rich, tender, savory--it had it all. Finally--the other feature (main feature?) is the Cuervo's House margaritas--they are really unique and delicious. The Mayan margarita was really special and tasty with the grilled nopal but the cucumber and chile serrano (muy-muy picante!) margaritas were also delicious. Everything is prepared to order--no preprepared food or drinks. What a wonderful...
