TOURISTS BEWARE: A Two-Tier System That Treats You Like Second-Class
This restaurant operates with two entirely separate systems — one for locals, and one for unsuspecting tourists. If you’re a local, congratulations: you’ll receive attentive service and fresh, high-quality ingredients. If you’re a tourist? Prepare yourself for indifference, recycled food, and the sinking realization that you’ve made a mistake.
We were welcomed with a warm greeting, and multiple servers rushed over to take our order and bring chips and salsa — a promising start. But it quickly became clear that this was just a trap to get us seated and locked in.
Looking around, we noticed every local table received a green basket of chips — neatly wrapped in plastic to preserve freshness. Tourists, on the other hand, got brown baskets of unwrapped, stale chips that had clearly been sitting out all day. While waiters hovered attentively over the locals, we sat ignored for long stretches — eventually helped only by the busboy.
And if that were the extent of the disparity, maybe you could shrug it off. But when it comes to seafood in a coastal region, freshness isn’t a luxury — it’s a health necessity. Trust is everything. That trust was shattered the moment we noticed these glaring differences. Our tortillas? Clearly recycled — some edges were so stale and hard they were literally inedible.
We tried to enjoy our meal but just wanted to leave, and even that was a challenge. Trying to get the check took forever. When we finally asked to speak with a manager to express our concerns, we were told no manager exists and no one is in charge. The server insisted there was “no difference” in service, even as the evidence stared them in the face.
We’ll never return. And if you’re a tourist considering this place, do yourself a favor: observe the chip baskets before you sit down. If the locals have sealed, fresh chips and the tourists have a basket of tired leftovers, walk out before sitting down. Don’t make the same mistake we did.
They got us. Don’t let them...
Read moreWe had wanted to try this spot on one of our previous visits, but we never got around to it. This time we made a point of going early on our visit so we would definitely have dinner there.
Our initial reaction was not very favorable, both the gentleman who sat us and our first server were somewhat surly. No smile, no greeting, we felt like we were bothering them. I understand they may be tired of rude gringos, but we live in Mexico, speak Spanish somewhat well, and always tip our servers well, so the initial interaction eas somewhat disappointing. I will day that from that point on the service improved tremendously and the servers who brought our drinks, food, bussed our plates, etc. were friendly and provided excellent service.
We ordered shrimp ceviche as an appetizer. We are used to ordering ceviche and it coming in a small goblet or wine glass. We are unprepared for this enourmous (and delicious) serving of ceviche. This could easily serve a party of four with some left over. We ended up bringing half of it home. It was a nice touch having over a dozen different types of hot sauces on the table.
I ordered the whole fried fish and my wife ordered the coconut shrimp. The fried fish was huge and perfectly cooked. It was moist, tender, and well prepared. For just over 300 pesos this was an exceptional meal. It came with rice, mashed potatoes, and a small salad, but after all that ceviche and the fish, I couldn't even try them.
My wife ordered the coconut shrimp. While they were huge, nicely battered, and had plenty of coconut, they were a little overcooked. They still had an excellent flavor, but maybe just a little shorter tome in the fryer.
All in all, we enjoyed our visit. Most of our servers were great, the atmosphere was lively (the live music was nice), the food was very good, and the portions were huge for a...
Read moreThat was our first restaurant when we arrived there. I asked the van driver when I was going to pick up the rental car, where he usually goes with his family and that was his suggestion. The restaurant was nice. Flags from lots of countries, lots of tables. That day, there was live music.
The service was pretty good, very pleasant waiters.
The food was good, nothing to write home about, but good. I ordered a fish and the taste was ok, a little lack of flavor, I mean spices. The fish didn't have a lot of meat, but ok. The mashed potatoes was tasty. The salad was fresh! We had an ice cream, really different. It was a melon ice cream inside of a half melon.
Attention! The first time I passed my credit card, the transaction was canceled for some reason and because it was the first time we used it, my wife called the credit card p.number and they told us that the transaction was reimbursed but there was a 5 dollars charge. I had paid the bill with another Credit card. We showed the manager and explained the situation, and he tried to say that there was a transaction fee or something like that... I refused to leave without receiving my 5 bucks back. I hope that it is not a common practice there. They have several restaurants around the area and the reputation...
