Lumbre — Restaurant in Baja California Sur

Lumbre was a fantastic dining experience for the whole family! Located a few minutes walk from the local centre plaza of San Jose Del Cabo, the restaurant is perfectly placed as a dinner option after a day of sightseeing, beach-going or shopping in the artistic district. The aesthetic is very much a contemporary feel with dark tones and metal adornments.

The service was very good. The hostesses are well-mannered and kind, and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu. They were excellent at navigating a nut allergy at the table, explaining what alterations could be made to accommodate but maintain the taste profiles. We really appreciated their attentiveness on this front.

The food was absolutely delicious. The complimentary bone marrow butter was artistically presented and really got the gastric juices primed for what was to come! The ash tempura shrimp was bursting with flavour - seriously impressive! Both salad options, heirloom tomato and roasted kale, were great. The kale salad was airy and light, and with the burrata cheese made a great dish. For the entrees, we had the pork belly (great), the roasted chicken (slightly dry but great flavour with the sauce), the steak and octopus (great). Of special mention was the ramen dish, which had seriously great flavour. Personally, I felt the steak in the ramen was better than the standalone steak dish. There were so many sauces to enhance the flavour, you wish you could have more cuts of meat to try each one more than once.

Service was excellent, you could tell they were still working things out but the abundance of staff, their amazing attitude and excellent service was all above par. Food was excellent, grilled oysters were our favorite followed by the Blue Fin sashimi and the Donut for desert. The fish and steak were good but not exceptional, We were charged extra for the steak, they said it was different than the steak on the menu but seemed no different. I was up-charged quite a bit for it. The raw oysters that were to be served cold were served warm, which give an off putting feel to them. Cocktails were very well done and wine selection is nice. More than anything the wait staff was excellent, The manager OTTO and our server Christian were so helpful and friendly, they were dedicated to ensuring we had a perfect experience. The ambiance was a little too chaotic, I had to yell across the table and I felt I had smoked a pack of cigarettes from the wood fire stoves. They could reduce the amount of tables and have better ventilation. The chef was also incredible, we were able to watch him work and plated every meal with precision and dedication. It was an experience watching him. Overall this is an excellent restaurant, value for money cannot be beat. Dinner for 3 with a bottle of wine and cocktails cost us $185 US. This is a must try restaurant. Many of the dishes were a unique blend of Mexican and Japanese influenced flavors, resulting in an unparalleled culinary experience. While every dish was impeccably prepared, the fatty tuna was the highlight of the meal. Nothing I can write about the flavor or texture would do the dish proper justice, so I will just say a long hush fell over the table as everyone took their first bite. It will be a dish my family and I will talk about fondly for years to come.

The quality of service was as equally impressive as our meal. Every staff member we interacted with was welcoming, attentive, and nothing short of professional. Our server, Raul, was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and provided thorough descriptions of even the most complex dishes. Not a single dish or drink he recommended failed to exceed expectation.

I seldom call any meal a perfect meal, but the wonderful staff at Lumbre achieved that title this evening. I will absolutely recommend this restaurant to friends and family who travel to the area and I will absolutely dine here again the next...
