My husband, myself, and our friend took a 2 week camping trip up and down the Baja peninsula. We stopped in Loreto for 2 nights, on day 1 we walked down to the waterfront looking for a restaurant. We came across Mariscos Ivan while walking, he noticed that we looked a little lost. Right away he asked us what we were looking for and we told him a restaurant. Full disclosure, I do not eat ceviche but my husband and friend does. Instead of trying to talk us into eating from his place, he graciously referred us to a restaurant that was more MY style. He also gave the boys some samples of his secret sauce. We told Ivan we would definitely be back tomorrow. The guys kept talking about it for the rest of the day, and how they couldn't wait to go back to Mariscos Ivan the next day. Day 2 we were on a mission straight back to Ivan's and praying that the local fisherman had a good catch. Ivan did warn us that he can sell out pretty early in the day. The gracious man that Ivan is, SAVED two decent size servings of Poke just for us. Of course the boys got a tub of service to go as well. All and all it was an excellent experience, Ivan is funny, sweet and just the type of guy you'd see yourself being friends with. Back to the food, the guys still couldn't stop talking about it. It was the best Poke they have ever had. And when I asked what was their favorite meal of the entire two week trip..... it was Ivan's!
So thank you Ivan. P.s. the ice cream shop you sent us too...
Read moreIvan is a great chef and his focus on fresh ceviche and fixings, right across from the malecón, is brilliant. We had a late lunch here, just chatting with Ivan and eating fresh ceviche and learning about the local culture and food.
The food is delicious. He has several options, all prepared that day, and a variety of fixings and sauces. He also has some burritos and other foods.
But back to the ceviche, it was so fresh and bright, rich, and tasty. My wife and I split a small cup it’s tostadas and we ate every last bite.
Sitting across from the beach, watching the water, eating great food, and chatting with the man, it doesn’t get better than this.
Make sure you stop here during your visit to Loreto. Support small business and enjoy a nice meal, a unique experience, and something you will rarely find anywhere else...
Read moreOkay, first day in Loreto, we walked by Ivan's setup and said "Hey, that looks good!", but being Mexican street food thought we would save it for the end of the week...just in case. Second day, stopped and talked to Ivan. That's all it took. We have now been here five days and have been to see Ivan 3 times. 2 more days left and will hit him up so we get to sample all 5 of his current offerings.
The other 5 star reviews will tell you all you need to know about the flavor and quality, so all I will add is what I would want to know. Is it food safe? Yes, absolutely. It is ice cold out of his chests at all hours of the day. Do not hesitate and do not miss out otherwise you will regret not having one of the best food experiences of your travels. Any of his dishes would be an acceptable dish in any 3 star...
