NOTE: It has been nearly 2 months since having breakfast here and I must add an addendum about this place! Since the Holidays we have been struggling with the fraudulent problems with this establishment. Initially we received a paer receipt that included 2 large pizzas alone for a total of nearly $250 USD, when our initial bill was for two people with breakfast and health drinks, with additional pasteries from the bakery for a total of only approximately $115.USD. We are now engaged in a dispute over wheather we are required to pay for both receipts!!! Agai, I must stress that we took photos of our ONLY occasion here at this diner. We did NOT have pizza as this management now claime. And our credit card sponsor is not only disputed the claime we invited friends along at the same time as we had only breakfast at 10 am, but that we ordered two pizzas at over a $100.USD PER pizza. Our credit card sponsor is also fowarded this so-called dispute to their Fraud Department, who inturn is in communication with the local San Jose del Cabo authorities. BE WARNED!!!
We had a late breakfast and it was excellent. The service was exceptional. That atmosphere was amazing in right downtown San Jose del Cabo. The staff was excellent, the food... was simply amazing! It was the first time since Paris water was infused with rosemary! ...and was served without asking.
And that was the breakfast at the restaurant... The bakery was beyond any anticipation! The selection of pastries was beyond anything imaginable.
The chef was trained in Mexico City and I would guess the baker was at least trained in Europe. I may be wrong but I selected the peanut butter pastry with my coffee Americana and haven't enjoyed such a delight since Barcelona.
REPLY: I continue to stand by our review! The ticket I was handed by the cashier was indeed from another restaurant. Later when our card service notified us, we called Ruba's, because that was the only place we visited that particular day, and who we spoke with at Ruba's, did, infact, admit the titled restaurant on the receipt given was associated with Ruba's. BTW, this particular (other) restaurant does not have pizza; described on the receipt, of any kind on their menu. Specifically, no pizza for over $100.USD apiece. Amazingly, when we called Ruba's a 2nd time, a different employee denied Ruba's was associated with this other restaurant. Neither my girlfriend OR I visited any other retail establishment that particular day, other than Ruba's. This is why we are adamant about this incident. The only receipt from that same date was this where we shared a "breakfast" and an addition box of assorted pasteries for a business affair later that day, at Ruba's and it's associated bakery. Neither my girlfriend or I have ever eaten at this 2nd restaurant - with or without the desire for pizza(s) noted on the receipt given to me at Ruba's by the cashier at 10:30 in the morning!
I will note that speaking with our card company a few days ago, their security representative mentioned it was most-likely a fraud committed by an individual employee and not Ruba's management!...

We came back to Ruba’s a week after our first visit and had to downgrade my review to two stars.
The place shines when it comes to atmosphere and design. It’s definitely a pretty place.
Food was good but not great. Neatly presented but lacking in flavor. Coffee and pastries are still great though.
Service was the deal breaker for me this time. Paula, our server, did a good job but we were asked to leave while we were still finishing our coffee because there was a line forming outside. She did it politely and we were actually just to order the check so we didn’t mind.
What was definitely not cool was another waiter (I believe it was their captain) making comments about waiting for us to leave loud enough so we could hear and then leaning on top of our table to check on our coffee cups, all this, after we had already ordered the check, which by the way, took them forever to bring.
We will not be coming back.

Nice comfy place for breakfast or lunch. The place is well put together in an old Cabo home, decor is pretty enough for instagram.
Service is good, we were welcomed as soon as we came in the door, Ricardo showed us around the area since they opened recently and it was our first time here. Paula was our server and did a good job as well.
Coffee was really good as so was the food although portions might be on the smaller side. I ordered egg(s) benedict and they brought one single egg. The good thing is that they have many different pastry and bread options to choose from.
Prices are fair, not your cheapest breakfast place but it still has a good value/price relation.
Overall Ruba’s is a nice new option in San Jose, I would definitely suggest you...
Read moreThis wonderful little bakery and cafe that serves not only amazing artisanal bakery items but also a high class menu of delicious French-themed items. From your French toast, French omelette, and eggs Benedict with pork belly or filet mignon, to such things as Croque Madam and Croque Monsieur, and their very popular Franky's which is a French toast sandwich that has to be tried to understand how delicious it is.
The staff is very helpful and the atmosphere is rustic but incredibly cute. Our server Fatima was sweet, explained all the different bakery items, and suggested the French toast which we had and wow... Delicious!!! Thank you Fatima!
There is plenty of outdoor seating and some indoor seating for those that want to enjoy the air conditioned space. The Cafe serves wonderfully prepared espressos, lattes, and chai. I highly recommend the cinnamon latte that is creamy and with just the right amount of cinnamon to not be overpowering. I needed to have a second...
