I had the "tostadas de la abuela" which were stacked and delicious, along with a naranjada.
There was a short wait for lunch at 1 PM, but once inside, I was served promptly. The atmosphere, food and service were excellent. The chips were American style, thin but good. I would have preferred real tortilla chips, but these were still good, served with a chunckyChipotle salsa.
The tostadas were double stacked with generous toppings including chicken (there is a beef option), lettuce, onion, avocado, cream and queso fresco. I really enjoyed it.
The prices are very reasonable, and there are many menu options.
The decorations were well-done, rustic elegance in old Mexican style. The music was not too loud, and they were playing pop hits from the 1970s interrupted occasionally by the "mañanitas" as someone celebrated their birthday.
This is family friendly, good for small groups, and very pleasant. I highly recommend.
I returned a couple of days later to purchase a whole cheesecake to take to a gathering of friends. I got the guayaba topped cheesecake, and it was a big hit, absolutely delicious! When I go back to Tijuana I will certainly eat there again ...and save room...
Read moreI don’t know what we did. I don’t know if it was the way we dressed, the way we spoke or what we ordered but our server hated us. We ordered totopos with Avocado and the server was so rude, he said “so guacamole” and said it in the most condescending way imaginable and looked at us like we were dumb. Apart from that, he just left, he would check on every other table except ours. At the end when we asked the busser girl if we could have the check, our server bought it out for us and he held it, he didn’t say ANYTHING, just held it in my husbands face and after he took it he left, not a word was exchanged. Even now that I’m waiting for the check to be picked up he is nowhere to be found but he’s walking around just wandering. I got tired of waiting and I just stood up and paid the bill. The busser girl was so nice and friendly, we saw her for maybe a minute and she was kinder than all of the interactions we had with our server. Anyways, I think Johan was our server. Food...
Read moreHorrible experience, I come and eat here about 4-6 times a month because their Penne Chipotle Pollo is one of my favorite plates. During our meal the waiter completely ignored us and i had to call a different waiter that passed by our table everytime i needed something. I only finished half of my meal and the waiter took my plate to place my leftovers in a to go box. Waiter threw away my food and brought the bill only. In result he told me that the kitchen is preparing the same plate to go to consolidate the other plate tossed. I was glad they offered this but dissapointed once I arrived home to open my meal they replaced with only a bunch of partially cooked noodles with the same sauce and no chicken. I live in san diego and when i am visiting in tijuana i stop by the Cafe de la flor in Otay. So i can't just cross the border back to claim this problem to their manager. I hope they take care of me better or they will loose a frequent customer...
