What a delight!
This place was recommended to us on our final day in Tijuana. In a city with such a depth of culinary treats, I was hard pressed to think we'd encounter anything beyond the wonderful places we had already been. I was mistaken: our experience at Carmelitas was a summation of sorts of the best elements of Tijuana's food scene.
-The atmoshere is lovely, brimming with both aesthetic and conversational vibrancy, not gaudy nor intrusive. -The food was delicious! I had the Huevos Carmelita with a side of house made bacon and shared an item that was akin to a tostada campechana, though I can't remember the exact name of it. Both were fantastic, the latter peculiarly so. -And the people were so delightful. The senior Jose ("Papa Jo" as he called himself) was eager to talk us through the various aspects of the food, the kitchen, and bore a proud countenance as he explained the tortilla making process in particular. No one I made eye contact with didn't reciprocate with a smile.
All in all, ours was a truly memorable experience, having the pleasure of being hosted by a team that clearly understands their craft, and are keen to draw people into the culinary world that they inhabit. If you're anywhere near this place, I can't recommend you make your way over there...

We went for breakfast, and it was a fantastic experience. The ceviche was incredibly fresh, bursting with flavor in every bite. But the real star of the show was the birria. The unique flavor profile was unlike anything I've ever had, and absolutely delicious.

Read moreFrom the moment I stepped into La Carmelita Tj, I knew I was in for something special. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and beautifully styled — every little detail feels thoughtfully curated. The staff greeted me with genuine smiles and impeccable service throughout the entire evening.
But the star of the show is, of course, the food. Each dish arrived on time, artfully presented, and bursting with flavor. The flavors were bold yet balanced; I could tell every ingredient was fresh and lovingly prepared. The menu is creative but not overdone — it has that perfect mix of crowd-pleasers and delightful surprises.
I also appreciated how attentive the team was: refilling water, checking in at just the right moments, and offering recommendations without ever being pushy. The pacing between courses was just right, giving me time to savor each bite without feeling rushed.
To top it all off, the value is outstanding — you’re getting top-tier cuisine, service, and atmosphere without breaking the bank. La Carmelita Tj is now one of my go-to spots in Tijuana, and I can’t wait to bring friends and family back.
Highly, highly recommend — this place deserves every star...
