This review is not a rant or complaint, but rather not my cup of tea. Had an ok experience and the setup was pretty close to the French restaurant Emma across the way, however it was kinda muggy and smokey upon entering. Ordered at 8:10 pm and wasn't served until 8:55 pm so not a great start. I wasn't sure what the concept is, but the name of the restaurant means the end of California which is technically the border town of TJ so perhaps that's why it seems to be a fusion menu. The ribeye though generous at 500 grams or 17 oz was cooked at the right temp and appeared to be be a prime cut, is extremely expensive and costs as much as Morton's or Ruth's Chris, but without the steakhouse standard. When I say that it was because we asked for a charred crust (Chicago style) and didn't quite get it. Very underseasoned and does not come with any sides unless you order it. I did enjoy the side salad which was also quite pricey, but the abundance of greens made up for it. Very refreshing, crisp, and fresh sprinkled with a generous heaping of parmesan cheese. Menu was pretty limited and no fish option for our main entree selection except for octopus which was grilled properly. Kind of odd to see chinese baos on the menu. The wifey said she had the mushroom and truffle risotto last time she came with her friends where they used fresh/real truffles so I was intrigued by that, but didn't end up ordering it because well, carbs lol. They also have your standard baja mex fare such as tostadas and tacos. So is it a steakhouse? An Asian, Baja fusion place? This year's trendy date spot? Or an anti republican joint? Not sure what their type of cuisine and identity is, but I'll rate it 2.5 stars downgraded to 2 for the warm/smokey atmosphere, long wait, under-salted steak, and high price equivalent or higher...
Read moreBad Wine, Bad Oysters, Bad Cheesecake… how do you mess these up? Nobody is checking the quality of what they are serving. Wine was going rancid, had to order a different bottle, but did I still was charged for the rancid wine. Oysters, way to much cheese completely removed the flavor of everything else. Send half of it back but nobody there bothered to ask why and still had it on my bill Cheesecake, Jesus this had to be the worse cheesecake I have ever had, dry with no flavor. Was still charged for sending it back
The good, steak and 2nd glass of wine. Surprisingly the steak was cooked very well. But I can go around the corner to other near by resteraunt and pay about half the price. But price point is on par with U.S. resteraunts
Ambiance, we had reserved our table the week prior. We’re we seated at the reserved table? No instead we were seated at a spot where the cold air would hit when ever someone opened the front door. Also with the reserved table I had paid $40 up front and the waitress forgot to deduct this from the bill which required me to return to get my deposit.
Service: typical U.S. service so if your american you will be used to it, but if your used to visiting other fine resteraunt in the area or travel to CDMX you will realize the service here is lacking.
What was worse is we were told we can only stay for 2 1/2 hours as they had this table reserved for later in the evening. Had we known this from the beginning we wouldn’t had bothered with the...
Read moreWe where a party of 10. Almost all of us ordered different things. I tried mostly all of them. All the meats where tasteless (no seasoning not even plain salt). The only flavor on the plates where a little bit of sauce they would decorate the plate with (they did have salsa on the table). I mean it wasn't nasty I just wouldn't go back for the food. All the alcoholic drinks I tasted where good! The bathrooms have no sinks, running water (except for the toilet) or soap. They have sanitizer and paper towels and they where really dark (I had trouble seeing my dress and hair). My brother in law ordered tacos d lengua and no joke....they bring him 2 tiny tacos (the ones with the tiny tortillas) and that's it! I ordered steak with fries (so in my head I was thinking potato wedges or some good thick fries). I ended up getting a regular sized steak with julienne potatoes on top (I was disappointed because I was hungry). For dessert I ordered a chocolate cake (which was dry and crumbly) and others ordered their thing. Later they come with a platter with my slice of cake and other slices others had ordered for dessert and that's when I realized some things you order aren't only for you its for everyone to taste. I was thinking for the "amount" of food/drinks we got the bill would be like $300.....nope it was $551 ($600 w/tip). The waiters where very...
