I really wanted to like this place. It did not work out that way. It seemed like I was in an episode of a cooking show where the challenge was to take authentic Mexican home style food and turn it into something fancy and expensive. It LOOKED good. But it flopped.

The chic plating and the modern decor give the impression of fine dining, but the flavor, the service, the palatability, and the overall experience are what made this restaurant flop.

I found the chilaquiles difficult to eat. Because of their plating, there were chips all around the outside and the top layer, with the meat and sauce piled in a slop in the middle. This resulted in the chips not being soaked with the sauce and therefore not being soft. Instead of shredded meat, it came with giant chunks of pork, which I had to shred myself and then add to the chips along with with the chunky sauce that I had to scrape from the bottom of the plate. There was a lot of gristle with the pork. Neither of us liked the flavor of the sauce. It was unpalatable and unsatisfying. I showed up super hungry and left wondering what I was going to eat at home. Never a good sign. The beans were so-so, watery and flavorless. No rice. 😭

The fruit salad was very good, crisp and fresh, juicy and flavorful. Our only complaint was that we had ordered it based on a Google photo which represented it as coming with cottage cheese. When ours did not have cottage cheese, the waitress explained that they don’t have that there.

Scrambled eggs were very well done, bits of black in them. Nobody ate them. The pancake was good.

Instead of chips and salsa, we were brought a bolillo (like a French roll) spread with refried beans and topped with cheese. 😳 What… I mean, it wasn’t bad, but…it wasn’t good either?? #why

We were served hot sodas with a glass of ice. Yuck. The glasses were quite small, so by the time the first glass was drunk the ice had melted and we are left with hot soda in the can. The waitress was not very attentive (when we needed her to be), so I had to wait about ten minutes with no drink.

Speaking of that waitress, both of us felt stressed by her insistent manner. She gave us about three seconds to look at the menu and then kept suggesting things, pointing things out, asking if we were ready, etc. She arranged everything on the table every time she walked over. I am not joking. Straightened each person’s placemat, moved the centerpieces, pushed aside plates and cups. So awkward. I was like, you wanna come to my house and clean my room, too??

Lastly, we were batting away flies and little gnats during the...

WOW, WOW, WOW! If you come to TJ, this is a MUST try place. First, the service was EXCELLENT. Second, my husband ordered chilaquiles EXTREMELY spicy with arrachera. He asked to make them EXTREMELY spicy and they were. The chilaquiles were not only spicy but flavored. My husband tipped the waitress and the cook very well because his food was soooo good. My chilaquiles were not spicy just the "normal" green salsa and yummy 🤤 The server offered us freshly made Oaxaca hot chocolate and man that was tasty. He also offered us carrot cake and it is a must try too. It it not too sweet because they do not put a lot of the cream on top just in the middle and it is a big slice and pretty darn good. No complains at all. Their sanitary protocol is very good too. Planning to come back, YOU...

I been to this place twice before today and I thought it was good, but today My husband ordered the green chilaquiles and they where salty! I ordered the traditional red chilaquiles. They where ok, not sure if they prepare the sauce in house but it taste like can sauce on both. They need to improve on their customer service. They brought my 2 year old’s food first and by the time he was done eating they brought ours! From now on I rather make my own at home with lettuce, sour cream and cheese. Mine are fire! 🔥

Not a dog assistance friéndly restaúrant. Employee stated I was not welcome as a customer based on their political “PET”policy which does not apply to everyone who walks in to be served since my dog is a servicié animal. I was not offered to go service either. I explained I walked down from Vet to get something to eat with my service dog. They cared less look at each other mockingly laughing as I’m talking. Not a place worthy of my money.
