We were there for 20 minutes. The place is much smaller than I though and much more rustic, we decided to go because of social media and how good the photos looked on ig. If only we knew we fell directly for a trap. The guy there was nice and attentive and what happened had nothing to do with his service. That being said these are the reasons why i give them a 1 star, paid and left: When ordering drinks I asked if the Chai was natural and it wasnt its just powdered processed one, so i ended up just asking for water. ( if you are going to sell the "health & nature and Tulum vibe and charge that premium, the least you could do is do things from scratch and stay true to that) Ordered the chilaquiles the waiter suggested. They came cold, with undercooked bacon so i asked the guy if they could toast the bacon, he said yes, he comes back 60 seconds after and they had switched the undercooked bacon for ham. 😭 I start eating the chilaquiles, the top is dry and cold, i dig in to get to the salsa and before i could try it again half cockroach falls next to my plate. Half because it was being eaten by something and you could actually see the bites on it. That was my limit. We ordered the...
Read moreThe atmosphere at this breakfast spot is truly beautiful — everything is designed with so much love and has a really nice Mexican vibe. There was even live music, which made the experience very charming. The staff was super friendly and motivated, which we really appreciated.
Unfortunately, the waiting times were quite long. It took around 20 minutes just to get our first drinks, and about an hour for our breakfast, which is a bit disappointing for a morning meal.
As for the food: the Shakshuka was unfortunately very bland — it didn’t resemble a real Shakshuka. It lacked spices, and the consistency was far too watery. On the other hand, the other dish we ordered (a bowl with egg, nachos, avocado, and sauces) was full of flavor and nicely seasoned.
All in all, it’s a nice place to visit for the atmosphere and friendliness, but the kitchen really needs to improve both the timing and consistency...
Read moreThe place is cute. I command the effort put in creating a nice oasis and offering original menu options.
However, I was quite disappointed with the food itself. It lacked punch, had no strong flavor. Overall it made me think the whole idea of Chamana is slightly pretentious and would do with a reinvention prioritizing taste over concept. The chilaquiles were boring, the sauce was bland. They could add smoked paprika or flamed “tatemado” chile powder on top, a minimal addition that would go a long way. There are also very few options with meat. I ordered the dish that had goat cheese and Serrano ham but it was unavailable. There was no option to add meat or chicken to the chilaquiles as is customary in most Mexican eateries. The fruit cocktails were also fancy on paper and quite watery in reality.
Service was good however. Too expensive...
