La Fonda del Zancudo — Restaurant in Cancún

Food 7.5 or 8 out of 10. They started us off with bread topped with garlic and parsley/coriander and various sauces. This was delicious.

Steak was flavourful and decent size. No complaints.

The burger came with a piece of pork on top of the bun (pictured). One waitress suggested that it’s salmon. Our actual waitress confirmed its prosciutto. it wasn’t listed on the menu at all so beware. We requested it to be removed. I assume they replaced the buns only (pictured) and didn’t make a fresh burger but I could be wrong. The buns were slightly over-charred so there was a strong burning smell. Buns used are not the same as North American style burgers.

La Fonda Brownie Not a big fan of the popcorn. Brownie and Ice cream were not as sweet as what we’re used to. This is a good thing. Not sure if it’s intentional or not. I wish the brownie was warmer and ice cream was colder. This would’ve been a great combo.

Service Decent. Nothing to write home about. The restaurant was empty when we came so I expected better service - especially priced where they are. Waitress didn’t bring separate utensils for dessert but was suggestive of a tip. I guess this is the culture in Cancun.

We went on vacation and was staying near by this restaurant. We walked pasted it idk how many times,then we were all starving and it just so happened to be open. It was our first time here and oh my lord. IT WAS AMAZING!!! For 3 people we had ordered the truffle macaroni bread bowel, tuna, potato skins, 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 extra dishes I don’t remember plus a water all for $70 with tip. It had the best atmosphere and the decor was stunning! 10/10 would recommend to anyone in the area. It was definitely something we tried to look for when we got back home but nothing can come pare! We had a good meal on one occasion and returned next night to face a huge disappointment! We started our meal and a smoker nearby lit a foul smelling cigarette. The attitude of the staff was unhelpful and they did not attempt to get the smoker to stop. The garden is very enclosed - effectively indoor. The smoke was choking, we could not taste the food. We had a sore throats and my eyes were effected. WE were forced to move tables to an outside area to finish our meal. There is no indication that smoking is permitted (otherwise we would not have gone in) and no non-smoking area.
