So glad my family visited this restaurant when Japanese food cravings hit. Recently purchased property just a few minutes away and feeling so happy that this restaurant is close by. 100% we will be back. Parking is easy along the street or in back and side roads around the restaurant. Just from the outside you can tell whoever designed the building put a lot of thought into it and even more apparent as you walk in. Gorgeous restaurant. Clean beautiful bathrooms. And the service... shout out to Miguel! You're amazing and you deserve all the tips. If you get Miguel as your server consider yourself lucky. For the limited English he knew he took care of us well and even cracked jokes! Service and crazy fresh seafood along with a stunning atmosphere. This is a fave for us. Can't wait to eat here again! I personally ordered the Una Don (rice bowl with eel) and it was so good with the Shabu Shabu soup we ordered. Piping hot soup is perfect. Come here. You will not regret it!

1. Things run on the drier side. I had the karaage chicken, gyoza, and gyu don that can be improved on. A recommendation would be cutting the karaage chicken into bigger pieces to preserve the moisture in the chicken better when it is deep fried. 2. Sushi rice lacks seasoning. Good sushi rice needs some acidity, I would suggest putting some sushi rice vinegar for the flavouring. I dipped my sushi into the ponzu side dish the restaurant provided and this solved the issue when I was there. 3. The dry karaage chicken needed a dipping sauce but we weren’t given any. When I asked for mayonnaise which classically goes with karaage chicken they gave me aioli. I would suggest looking into getting the Japanese kewpie mayonnaise to go with the karaage chicken. On the bright side, none of the dishes went terribly wrong with their flavor profile. I really enjoyed my miso ramen, and the waiters were nice to us. This restaurant has potential to become an authentic Japanese eatery.

We went in for an early dinner and was struggling to understand the menu (we struggle ordering Sushi regardless) and not able to speak hardly any Spanish it was even a bit more difficult.....the entire waiter team were so patient with us and tried to help us understand the menu and take our order. Finally a waiter by the name Miguel came over and was absolutely wonderful in assisting us as he spoke enough English to help us and we so appreciated that he went out of his way to step in and help us so much.. However, the people are NOT the only thing that was outstanding as the food was absolutely amazing and definitely topped some of our favorite places in the states. This restaurant far exceeded our expectations and I cannot express how much we appreciated what you did and they way you treated us.....thanks to all of the hard working and kind folks at Yamamoto for much more than a excellent dinner!

Bad food quality ! Be careful ! *

We went here today for a nice family dinner. The interior were nice. It started with the front desk girl, who only tread Spanish speaking guests well.

We as foreigner, who can’t protect themselves, has been seated in the worst seat, which before been refused by all Spanish speaking guests. And it was obvious why. She told us that’s the only available table, even other unreserved table were open. Ok, not a big issue, we just want to have a good meal.

Food came. Noodle were fine. We ordered also sashimi and sushi rolls. I have to say that for a sushi place the lightning is too dark, as for fresh food in Asia, you usually have decent light to check the colors of the fresh food. here were difficult to see.

Price for rolls were ok. Side dishes very much overpriced. For 2x very small bowl of white rice, (need mention, no sushi rice nor regular Japanese rice, those are normal plain Thai rice) they charged us 180$, 10Euro.

We expect at least good food quality. Unfortunately this was not the case. This is really disappointing.

The worst moment came an hour after the dinner: this every evening, Everyone who are the sashimi and sushi rolls has now diarrhea!!! * Food poisoning!!! *

My poor son, who was so much looking forward to eat sashimi, has the worst situation, we need to see a doctor tomorrow the first thing.

We had good experiences in other Japanese places in Cancun, Irori for example. This one is to be avoided! Only now I read the bad reviews also about bad food quality at this place, which has been mentioned by many guests. I really should have checked it before! This place has heavy food quality problems!

Avoid...

Out of hundreds of positive Google reviews, I've only left one other negative review aside from this one, so this is significant. I am sharing this in respect of full transparency and honesty for other guests.

PRO's: Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Great job, designer. And great job to the staff that keeps it looking beautiful.

CON's: Aside from blasting pop music with YouTube ads between songs...Overpriced, average quality sushi and staff overcharged without apologising, putting me in an awkward position by having to stand up for the fact that I had been charged $80 for a bottle of water that was listed on the menu as $25. At the end of the day, it's not about the money - and I am happy to pay an extra $55 to a great restaurant, but the fact is that they up-charged me over THREE TIMES the listed price of an item without saying anything and then were a bit cold and unaccommodating when I kindly and openly tried to make the best out of the situation.

In regards to the food, the presentation and quality were nothing special (which one would expect for these prices.) Very little sushi for the cost of the dish ($400 MXN for 9 pieces and some wasabi/ginger) and the waiter was inflexible to substitute on the menu. Ordered two fried skewers because I was still hungry after the main meal and they tasted like they'd come out of a freezer pack from the supermarket.

At the end of the day, I paid $500 and left hungry. I suggest looking elsewhere for a good meal in Cancun; however, if you want to see a beautifully designed restaurant, it's worth sticking...

We went to this restaurant for a fancy meal on our honeymoon, the food was fresh, but the staff was not as kind to us as other places we visited. We ordered $35 worth of food or 615 pesos, and they tried to have us pay 30 pesos more for water or $1.5 which we could have bought 10 L of water with that amount. If not for my husband I wouldn’t have tipped them, which is sad because not all of their staff is rude. When we were leaving even though we left a 85 pesos tip they called us idiotas for arguing over 30 pesos. Very disappointed in the experience although the food was good. I recommend trying local places instead of spending money here, other places like tomales vendors will occasionally give you an extra drink for free. (We had to buy water even though we had it in our bag because they refused to give us ice for free) I would not recommend this place unless you are willing to check your bill before paying and tipping on a wrong amount. It seemed like they judged our ability to spend money based on our appearance so you might want to go home and change if you come from an event...
