The best hostel I have ever stayed at. They spoiled me forever. I will always compare every hostel to Mezcal. Their rooms are super clean, the hostel is super super safe, and there is always a crowd. They also have a girls only room if you prefer. I originally only booked here for 2 nights because I wanted to travel to other places in Cancun. However, after being there only a few hours, I realized I didn't want to stay anywhere else and I booked through the rest of the week. Even if you want to travel to other places, it's better to pay so that you don't lose your spot. They are full almost every night. So book ahead of time!
Anything you need to know, and I mean ANYTHING, Mike at the front desk knows. No hotel can give you the info Mike can. I kid you not. I soon learned not to make any plans without asking him. For instance, there is a snorkeling place on Isla mujeres that is advertised. It costs $75. Mike told me about the place almost next door to that place that offers the same experience except for $12. He knows where every atm is, every bus, best beaches, how to get everywhere, where to spend your time, and where to go if you are short on time. Literally everything!
Mezcal offers activities throughout the day. Solo travelers, I PROMISE you, you will have a social life. Everyone is so friendly and I made so so many friends. They have great breakfast! Best omelettes I have ever had. Beach day everyday that the hostel runs and there is always a good number going. Then there's free dinner every night, along with group activities. Everyone comes back from the day (or out of hibernation at about 7pm.) Dinner starts, group games, and everyone is there. It's my favorite part. Then at 11pm, the hostel will bring everyone that wants to go out to a club or bar and usually a large group goes. However, quite a few people will stay back and chill and lay on the hammocks, relax, talk, and get to know each other.
They have a bar that's open from 12pm to 1am. Andrew is amazing and can make you anything. He's the best! They work super hard and never seem to be off the clock. Somehow they serve everyone super quick.
I can't wait to go back. I promise you won't go wrong staying here!
Also, please keep in mind, Tip the housekeeper who comes every day! Her name is Rosa I believe. You can either give the tip to her or I'm sure the front desk will give it to her if you tell them to. Also don't forget to tip the front desk. And also the bar, and the chef. Remember, Mexico doesn't pay much. When there is no tip jar, these are the workers that are often forgotten about as far as tipping. Don't forget to tip them too!
Mezcal is the best place to stay. However if they are full, you can stay at their sister hostel called Mayan monkey. It's owned by the same owners. Mayan monkey is newer but it's the next best. Mezcal hostel was the best...

Perfectly well located Hostel/Hotelito which serves as a great landing point in Mexico or as a place to chill out at the end of a tour. Its a few minutes away in a taxi from the ferry port you need for Isla Mujeres and offers a perfect base point.
Taxis to the airport cost about $20 but if you are clever you walk the 7 minutes to the ADO bus station and get it for $5.
Mezcal is without doubt one of the cleanest and tidiest places I have ever had the pleasure to stay at. From ice cold dorms with air con to gorgeous privates with double beds, ensuite and cable TV they just get it right. My private rooms were Fireball but the absolute best was Mai Tai which I LOVED
The pool area is really well situated and you can chill in the shade or blaze in the sun. Every night something is going on but if you dont want to party you can quietly tuck away and that is respected as well.
The free breakfast from 07.00 -10.00 is perfect to top up on along with tea and coffee.
Now....the important bit for me. Sometimes things dont always go right and things happen and that is the test of a great set of owners and management team. I am absolutely delighted to say this, I stayed in The Hilton and Marriot Groups for years and the owners here at Mezcal Hostel Paco and Carlos wiped the floor with high end hotel customer services teams. My issue was absolutely taken of with immediate effect. I never judge by mistakes I judge by how it is put right and everyone could do with learning from Mezcal. They made us feel so happy and so welcome it was just great.
Absolutely superb place to stay at and without doubt a place that really cares about your inbound and outbound care.
In many places around the world I have stayed in hotel rooms like this for anything up to $800 a night but here was just a mere $45. Who needs a flash hotel!
So in short, this is one of the best run Hostels/Mini Hotels I have had the pleasure to stay at on the planet......and Ive stayed at lots.
If you are coming to Cancun, stay here. Its that simple. They deserve the highest ratings I can...

Now a Nomads hostel/hotel but better than most other Nomads facilities, for the moment at least. A cool boutique hotel and immaculately clean. Dorm aircon 24/7. Nice kitchen in need of some repairs - and cups and glasses. One coffee cup. Excellent friendly cleaning staff and staff in general. Nice little pool with sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Walk from ADO.
A few issues which should be addressed. Cleaning staff should be given a checklist so that maintenance issues can be addressed or the property will slowly degrade. Examples: broken hinges on the kitchen cabinets, two burners out on the stove, melamine plates are apparently not microwave safe - they are ALL scorched from arcing and the microwave itself has quite a large hole in the back, presumably from an arcing episode. Need some new pans. Toilet supply line was leaking in Tequila Sunrise. I tightened it by hand and it stopped. Shower on the left has something wrong with the cold water tap. Doesn't flow at all and then suddenly gushes. Risk of scalding from hot water in the meantime. Washroom needs a door on it and ventilation fan to prevent odours and humidity from filling the dorm. (Excess humidity will affect aircon, necessitating frequent cleaning and heat from the showers is an unnecessary additional load. Dorm was actually too cold. A degree or even two warmer would be sufficient.
These are not complaints. I thoroughly enjoyed my two nights there. The building itself is wonderful, but with hostel loads it will take a bit more effort to keep it that way - and most guests won't tell you these things.
The bar is too expensive to be a popular spot, though food prices are in range for occasional meals. I guess that's Cancun in a nutshell though.
That's it! Thanks for the wonderful...
