Spezia Restaurant — Restaurant in Isla Mujeres

Our group of four dined at Spezia at Secrets Impressions Isla Mujeres on a rainy evening, and unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, the parking attendant directed us to park our golf cart down the street rather than allowing us to park near the entrance, forcing us to walk back through large puddles — not a great start.

Once seated, our server was overly pushy and rushed us from the beginning. Despite saying we needed more time to decide, he kept pressuring us to order and pushing suggestions. We had hoped for a relaxing dinner, but the atmosphere felt anything but.

The food was also underwhelming. My salad was so salty it was inedible, and my husband’s lasagna was bland and nothing like a traditional version. The other two in our party said their pumpkin ravioli and duck tagliatelle were “okay,” but the portions were quite small.

At the end of the meal, the server asked if we could tip in cash because he wouldn’t receive his credit card tips for 10 days — an awkward and unprofessional request. We asked to split the bill, but he seemed confused and had to be reminded which couple had ordered what.

For one margarita, one iced tea (with a charge for a refill), a small side salad, and lasagna, our total with a 15% tip was $93 USD — far too expensive for the quality, service, and overall experience.

The setting is beautiful, but the service felt pretentious, the food was inconsistent, and the prices were excessive. We won’t return and wouldn’t recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing, enjoyable...

Concierge where we were staying arranged for a birthday dinner for my wife and I, for her 60th. Lovely place, but that's pretty much where the positives ended. Food came cold, had to be sent back for warming, indicating it had been ready for table delivery nearly 15 minutes before. Understaffed for the number of guests on hand. And no acknowledgement of my wife's birthday at the end of the meal, although to be honest we were ready to go. Strange presentation of a wine list, too, via iPad, where one chooses a region of the world from a map. Oddly, Alaska was an available selection. Would have been much simpler in a single page, or a small bound book, like other fine restaurants. Wine did not seem to be cellared at proper temperature, either. Oh well, hopefully we were the exception for the evening; not a great way to end an otherwise perfect birthday day. Would not recommend to those outside the resort itself, and even then, to those discerning of service and overall dining experience, explore...
