I went last night and did the 13 piece Omakase dinner. I have been to Japan 5 times including living there for 3-4 months several times. In Mexico most sushi is not edible. It's awash in cream cheese, and the rice is never cooked right. While I have had some acceptable sushi experiences in Mexico City, I've never truly had great sushi until now.
Daniel, my sushi chef for the evening was really knowledgeable about sushi. I was so excited when he told me he's soon going to be making his first trip to Japan soon.
The sushi was presented beautifully and it tasted fresh as hell. And the rice was spot on. Sushi rice is not easy to get right and I could tell this place had spent a long time working on it. The pacing of the meal was slow and leisurely and I did not feel rushed in the least.
I loved the shrimp tempura and the Flor de Calabasas tempura. I loved the hamachi and my soft shell crab roll and the miso soup had such an incredible dashi flavor. I could tell it was homemade and not a mix.
For dessert I had the homemade green tea mochi and it was awesome.
I think the 13 course dinner was pretty filling, but my only suggestion would be to add one additional cut roll, or serve a small bowl of rice, or maybe some seaweed salad. For this price point, I just needed one or two additional small things.
Best sushi experience in Mexico for sure! I also got a truffle shaved piece of unagi (I think it was extra) and it was killer.
Wow was it a...
Read moreGreat sushi, sashimi, and nigiri place more on the Japanese side than “Mexican fusion” sushi. The place is not huge so make a reservation, because of the size it offers a cozy, exclusive vibe. I recommend sitting at the bar and take on the chefs’ recommendations. Drinks are good but there is not a very big variety, they do not make drinks per request, only what’s on the menu.
