After a heavy meal at Los Chilaquiles and sightseeing, it was dinnertime. However, neither my friend nor I were feeling hungry so we decided to do a small dinner at a later hour.
FOOD:
It is your standard cafe food, but I have to say the slice of carrot cake my friend got could literally be shared between a family of 4 so the dessert portions are where this cafe shines. I would go here in the future ONLY for dessert and drinks.
DRINKS:
Apparently not the best for any other drink except coffee. It is in competition with another cafe that specializes in tea right beside it but I wasn't able to visit the other one.
EXTERIOR:
We sat on the outside since the weather was nice and the abundance of green trees and plant life around the neighborhood made for a soothing and eye-pleasing background. The tables are well spaced out.
INTERIOR:
Those with travel companions with mobility issues, be aware that the bathrooms are located on the 2nd floor with a steep set of stairs to access them, with a portion of the ceiling so low that as an almost 6 ft guy, I had to duck slightly. This is most likely because the safety standards are different in Mexico.
Otherwise, it is a clean cafe with well-maintained facilities and quaint interior that reminds me of a typical Spanish villa.
SERVICE:
This was the first restaurant/cafe where the staff attempted to speak English to me when it became apparent my Spanish fluency isn't up to par.
Other servers had been almost afraid of me because they either couldn't or didn't want to speak English but here they really try to make travelers feel welcome.
This is usually a busy area around weekends so try to save the trip...

We did not have the chance to try the breakfast options as we came here on Friday night after a big dinner. However, there are reasons why this coffee shop had received such love from local people with thousands of review and a dominance of 5 star ratings. We ordered us a glass of Moka Helado, which has 4 layers: milk foam, coffee, and hot chocolate with cinnamon, and a slice of Tarta Platano Con Chocolate, which is a pie with a chocolate-covered crust, banana slices with caramel leche, and topped with whipped cream. At first, I thought the slice was too big, and the whipped cream was just overwhelmed. And as a matter of fact, it required two of us to finish one slice. But to my biggest surprise yet, it was the best pie crust I have ever had. It was not so sweet nor rich, but very chocolatey and crispy. It elevated the whole pie to many next levels. And all that was only for less than $6. I will definitely be coming back to discover for more, and to give myself a chill moment after busy days at work. Undoubtedly, this cafeteria is a gem...
Read moreOne of my favorite go-to's for meeting up with friends, or even going by myself and study in a nice atmosphere. It's not really a coffee place as the name implies (although they do have a selection of coffee and tea), but everything I have ordered with regard to food is made-fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. My favorites have to be the enchiladas and chilaquiles, but I have also ordered croque monseuir, waffles, several cakes, this special frozen drink (I forgot what it's called), and salads. I have yet to be disappointed! The atmosphere is comfortable with a simple rustic victorian feel and always fresh carnations at the tables. The patio is surrounded by greenery and lit with candles in the evening. Upstairs there's a small clothes/ accessories boutique that's over my price range, but it's still fun to go up and look around at the novelties. Expect it to be crowded...
