My family and I were visiting Puerto Vallarta this January and the owner of the condo recommended La Choza to us, and we were not disappointed. Porfirio our waiter met us at the entrance of the restaurant and showed us to our table on the third floor palapa. Do not be deterred by the rustic nature of the surroundings, it only adds to the authentic Mexican experience. If you like a good margarita or mojito, everyone in our party agreed that La Choza serves the best we have ever had. At La Choza they do not bring you a menu rather they bring you a tray of freshly caught seafood, as well as chicken and steak selections. The tray we were presented had steak kabob, bacon wrapped steak, chicken breast filet, whole lobster, whole red snapper, butter flied shrimp, coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp and a mahi-mahi filet. Guests can select any of the selections on the platter or do what we did and order the entire platter. The cost of the entire platter prepared for the four of us was 3300 pesos. See the picture of the prepared tray below. It looks like a lot of food, which it is but we all got to experience some of everything which was fun, and believe it or not we cleaned up nearly the whole tray with a small to go box left over. The food was great and everyone’s favorite bite was the bacon wrapped shrimp, followed by the coconut shrimp but truly everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. The service was outstanding, Porfirio and Caesar were attentive to our every need and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun.. After dinner Caesar called a cab for us but none were available right away so Porfirio offered to drive us to our condo in his personal car. It is people like Porfirio and Caesar and places like La Choza that makes the Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas so special. We would definitely recommend La Choza, and plan to visit again next time we are in...

I never write reviews but we just got back from this amazing experience and I feel as though I must. The walk through the village was wonderful, authentic and safe. Our amazing waiter met us on the road to help to guide us to the restaurant. Every moment was filled with joy and laughter. The drinks were amazing, best I’ve had in PV but the food! The food!!! Fresh caught daily, cooked to order. There is no menu but you don’t need one because they literally bring the fresh uncooked food to you on a platter so you can select what you wish. What is better than that? We choose a selection of all the seafood - 3 lobsters (best I’ve ever had), two snappers (I live on the ocean and catch these fresh myself - absolutely perfectly done), two huge prawns wrapped in bacon with cheese (a meal on their own!), three mega butterfly prawns (unbelievable flavour), perhaps the worlds largest and most delicious coconut prawns, three of them- everything cooked to absolute perfection and served with rice, mashed potatoes and salad. Did I mention the cheesy chips with guacamole to start? We couldn’t get enough! And then the desert! Homemade one of a kind ice cream, flan and coconut pie, we were so happy and full but had to keep eating.

The service was exceptional- we felt like royalty. Now there have been some comments about the price, we paid 2,300 pesos for the appetizer, 6 giant margaritas, the massive main course and the desserts. It was the most delicious meal we’ve had in Mexico- bar none. The owner even came out to shake our hand and chat with us as we were leaving. We are not rich people but you need to know this - it was so worth it - it was an experience not a meal, a wonderful experience that will stay with us long after this little vacation is over.

Do yourself a favour, take the time to find this delightful gem, I’m sure...

This place is one of those amazing finds that you always hope for but never really stumble across. We were staying across the way from the community of mismaloya during our time in Mexico so we wanted through the town and wanted to get a bite to eat. We were hoping to go to another restaurant that we learned was closed on mondays. A very helpful gentleman said why don't you go to Tony's. We said let's go so he walked us up to Tony's just up the hill and we were greeted by the most amazing waiter who brought us to the top floor to a table to overlook the jungle. It was just nearing sunset so we got to see the sun coming down over the jungle. Now this place does not offer paper menus, rather a tray with meat and Seafoods on it and you can choose what you'll have. They boast the best margaritas in Puerto Vallarta and they really are. I don't even like tequila and they were absolutely exceptional. I had probably what I would call the best pina colada of my life. The food was absolutely to die for. I had the variety of shrimp and my partner had the lobster. You would just wish you had room for more. The homemade guacamole was so flavorful, I almost wish I didn't eat it so that I had more room for shrimp. At the end of the evening we received a complimentary Kahlua beverage to help with digestion. I highly recommend if you are in the mismaloya area or on your way out to Boca de Tomatlan you stop in at Tony's, believe me you...
