I arrived about 6:30 PM and asked the person who helped with my luggage for some ice and a menu for room service. I never heard from him again. Then I went to turn on the TV....didn't work. Called the front desk and they said that I needed a different remote for the TV. They sent it down and it didn't work. I ended up turning the TV on and off manually. Shouldn't all the remotes be in the room for check-in? I was told the restaurant closes at 8 PM (that's early especially if you are traveling.) I couldn't get the phone system to work, so I walked over to the restaurant and placed my order. I've stayed here before and loved the steak with Portobello mushrooms sauce. This one didn't measure up to what I've had in the past.....maybe 5-6 small pieces of mushrooms in a gelatinous "sauce". I didn't think the dish was that good, but I was traveling with my dogs and they loved it. On Valentine's day I got a piece of chocolate cake to take to my room......dry and stale. Really? Your one chocolate dessert for valentine's day is stale? The next day I attended the carnival parade. When I returned to my room only 1 of 2 wastebaskets had plastic liners inside. There were no small soaps, shampoo bottles or lotions. Not even a spare roll of TP. On my third day when I returned after the room had been "cleaned", there were lots of large colored confetti pieces on the rug, on the white bedspread and in the bathroom. No soaps, shampoos, lotions, but I did get a spare roll of TP. I spent 3 nights there. When I arrived the shower wasn't that clean....mildew under the plastic mat and around the sliding door frame. In the corner was a string from a mop. That was there for my entire stay. The bathroom had a frosted glass window and something was visible on the outside. Just curious, I went out and looked..... it was a pile of 10-15 cigarette butts that had been there for quite some time. Now one of the most important things. If you have young children DO NOT STAY HERE. The pool area, although behind a "locked" gate is hardly ever locked during the mornings/afternoons when the staff is cleaning there. I went in and out many times a day because I brought 2 dogs and the hotel is located on the lake, for convenient dog walking. I would pull the gate shut and when I returned it would either be unlocked or wide open. A DEFINATE SAFETY HAZARD...
Read moreI am sorry to say that my experience with the Posada was not one I would repeat. My friend and her daughter and husband were in town for a brief vacation and wanted to revisit some of the places that I have enjoyed so much in the past. We stopped for a nice lunch, but was sincerely disappointed. First of all, we were not allowed to have lunch in the garden because a special event was planned at 5 pm. However, we decided to have lunch in the dining room. Our first bad experience occured when my friend's son-in-law ordered a steak for lunch and received it well- down after asking for it RARE. We explained that to the waiter and he said they would bring another one cooked as he requested. About 15 minutes later, he brought the 2nd steak, but, lo and behold, it was again cooked well-done. We explained the circumstances to the head waiter this time, and he was apologetic and offered another steak. However, by this time, everyone else had finished their lunch and did not want to hold everyone up for the rest of the day. The head waiter did not charge us for the steak dinner, which was appreciated. The part of the meal which was even more unacceptible was my order which was a large bowl of Azteca soup. It came on time and I quickly devoured it, thinking that there seemed to be a slightly strange taste to it, but did not mention it. I figured that my taster was just off that day. About 4 hours later, to my disappointment, I started to have strange eruptions from my bowel area, and then diarrhea. This lasted for the next 3 days. I was confined to the bed and hardly had the strength to get myself to the bathroom for my hourly bowel eruptions. If it were not for the traveler's diarrhea medication that I brought with me, I probably would have been suffering much longer. Anyway, this has been one of the worst experiences of my life and will never visit The Nueva...
Read moreThe property is 50 years old and looks it. The rooms have been renovated and updated but are still dated. My biggest disappointments were the advertised air-conditioning and included breakfast. The AC blew cold but barely cooled the room. It was noticeably cooler than outdoors but did not cool down as much as I had expected or hoped. Despite this I was able to sleep fine.
The first course of the included two-course breakfast was toast and coffee or tea. The second course was selected from a limited menu, two fried eggs, a frittata, pancakes, and included potatoes. TBH it felt rather small. Maybe I'm spoiled by the huge breakfasts included in the places I stay in Asia.
On our last night there was a rainstorm around 1am that blew enough water into the room to cover the entire bedroom floor! The electricity went out and the battery powered emergency lights illuminated our room for the rest of the evening. Almost all of the lights and outlets were still dead when we left in the morning, but the AC continued to run after a brief outage.
The location of the hotel is a 10-minute walk away from the town square. The sidewalks are narrow and the streets a rough cobblestone that challenges even the nimblest footed...
