Every year I come to Puerto Vallarta and one of the highlights of my trip is dinner at La Vaca. It was always the best, and most expensive dinner of my trip.
Tonight is my final night of this year's Puerto Vallarta trip so I treated my girlfriend to dinner here. All trip I told her "on Friday night we'll dine at La Vaca, the best restaurant in Puerto Vallarta".
I am so disappointed with tonight's experience. I will never return. Here's why:
No upscale restaurant serves the salad with the dinner. It should always be 10 to 15 minutes prior to dinner being served. So I sent back my salad.
They are playing very loud techno music. My girlfriend can barely hear me talk. This is not a disco. I didn't come here to dance. I came here because it used to be an upscale steakhouse. Low class.
I split a Lomo steak (filet) with my girlfriend. We ordered it medium rare. It was served rare. We sent it back. When they returned it, it was still rare. We could only eat the outside parts which were closest to medium rare. Most of the meat was dark red. Neither the waiter nor manager seemed to care and no concessions were offered.
The chefs and crew have clearly never dined at nice steakhouse. They don't know what the f#@% they are doing.
The only positive thing I have to say is that the chocolate pistachio creme brule is still amazing.
Goodbye La Vaca. I'll be spending my money in the future at restaurants that know what they are doing and understand how to...
Read moreWhile most of our food was very good, our first waitress introduced herself and then abruptly and without letting us know, ditched our table while continuing to serve those around us. I should note that we are polite and smiling clients, not rude or unreasonable people. That meant that our second of 3 waiters to serve us did not know what type of wine we wanted a refill of (no big deal but not ideal). However, the evening was really ruined by the very loud bass of a not very skilled DJ, especially when the thumping bass was joined by omnipresent screens with very poor quality old 1970s and 1980s funk and rock music. I should note that this is an Argentine Steak House, so we would have expected Argentinian music of any kind, Spanish Classical guitar, jazz, or any other calm, quiet music that would have been suitable for the predominantly 60s and 70s (aged) crowd that was present. Several couples around us came and left within 45 minutes because they disliked the ambience. We asked our second waiter to bring the manager to speak to us several times, but he was only finally summoned when we had finished dining. The manager, who had spent the entire evening speaking to his friends at one table, clearly did not care about our concerns. This place needs...
Read moreWe headed here for Valentine's. The place was completely full when we got there, we were lucky to have a reservation. Please be warned portions are huge. A loaf of fresh hot bread came out first with 3 salsas. We shared a Tomato and shaved Leak salad. Tomatoes were great on their own but overall for a salad it lacked flavor, even the black olives weren't that briney. Maybe they forgot the dressing. This app could easily be shared between 4 people. Most steaks are 500g which is a whopping 1.1lbs. The baked potato was as big as my head and shareable. We ordered 2 steaks just to get a good mix of flavors. We ordered the Rib Steak cooked to perfection and the Vacio a thicker cut, which surprised me as it is supposed to be flank which is usually thinner. Both steaks were some of the best meats we ever tasted. Each steak was accompanied by a honey mustard salad. Of course we had lots of leftovers to be eaten for lunch the next day. A couple next to us offered to share their mushrooms because it was more than they could consume. Service was top notch, but I am confused as to what they are trying to be. They had music videos playing all over the restaurant on older non HD screens. Regardless was a fun night and...
