Pelícano Oyster Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Jalisco

I was so excited to try this restaurant and add it to my rotation while visiting Guadalajara. There are so many amazing seafood restaurants here and the flavors are so on point, but this one missed the mark by a long shot.

Perhaps they changed recipes or Chefs recently and the food was all very good quality but everything tasted bland. We ordered two different oysters raw, one Chimichurri and one with cucumber sauce, one order of Rockefeller, a Marlin Sope, and the deep fried oysters. You can taste the delicious fleshy oysters that are not briny so they are sourced from a great place, but the toppings were very lackluster. The chimichurri and the cucumber "sauces" tasted the same. The Rockefeller was a messy bechamel sauce disappointment that I couldn't save even with all the sauces they provide on the tables. Even after this, we pushed through with optimism, because to eat oysters you have to love them, and I was not going to waste these babies, so lots of lime and salt was added and down the hatch they went!

The kicker that sealed the deal of utter disbelief was the "Sope de Marlin". I have NEVER seen my husband spit anything out in his life and I could tell he was gravely embarrassed to have done so. It tasted like hot Tuna canned garbage. Nothing could save this dish. There is plenty you can do with Marlin and I have tasted beautiful flavorful creations just a few blocks down from this restaurant in the same area. It was the waitress' "you uncultured swine" dismissive attitude that prompted me to write this review. She very quickly stated "it's because it's Marlin" when we mentioned how unsavory the dish was and walked away.

I DO NOT ever have any intention to shirk my checks, but when something is as foul as this dish was, I would assume at the very least there is an attempt to rectify the situation. There was no offer to remove the dish from our bill. That's fine. There was no attempt to offer anything in lieu of this dish. Not fine.

The bill was VERY reasonable and not expensive. I have paid more for coffee and a 2 bagels living in Las Vegas. I do want people to know that if you're looking for flavor, don't go to this place. There are so many places around here using the beautiful flavors and mecca of spices from Mexico in their dishes. Go anywhere else. 💥ADJUNTO EVIDENCIA DE LO SUCEDIDO💥 La comida fue muy buena, el servicio fue eficiente, super eficiente, al terminar nuestro consumo pedimos la cuenta a lo cual nos dimos a la sorpresa que ya tenia incuido y OBLIGATORIAMENTE incluida la PROPINA, a lo cual la chica esta esperando con ansias y poco inpaciente la tarjeta oara hacer el cobro, le pregunte, ya esta incluida la propina cierto y dice si ya esta sugerida con el 15, a lo cual el monto a pagar estaba en numeros enormes y me dijo son $856 nuestra cuenta real fue de $745, y total para evitar conflicto se le pago pero le pedi el tiquet con el monto destacado y se puso algo nerviosa y me lo dejo y se fue al instante tome fotografía (primera imagen) y regreso de inmediato y me pidio el tiquet con el monto destacado, y me dijo si quiere el tiquet para facturar ahorita le traego un tiquet nuevo (segunda foto) obviamente el tiquet que me trajo ya no tenia el monto destacado y no decía absolutamente nada de propina OBLIGATORIA. 💥REGRESARIA? cinceramente no por la mala experiencia. 💥 LO RECOMENDARÍA? Decidí aventurarme en este restaurante de mariscos sin tener antojo de mariscos en ese momento. Para mi sorpresa, pedí una hamburguesa y quedé gratamente sorprendido por lo deliciosa que estaba.

La hamburguesa que probé en este lugar de mariscos superó mis expectativas. La carne estaba jugosa y bien sazonada, y el pan era fresco y suave. Los ingredientes complementarios, como lechuga, tomate y cebolla, estaban frescos y añadían un buen equilibrio de sabores. Fue una hamburguesa muy sabrosa y satisfactoria.

Sin embargo, debo mencionar que el agua de limón que pedí no cumplió con mis expectativas. Tenía un sabor más concentrado y resultaba un tanto ácida para mi gusto. Esto fue decepcionante, ya que esperaba una bebida refrescante y equilibrada para acompañar mi comida. Es posible que sea necesario ajustar la preparación para obtener un sabor más equilibrado y agradable.

A pesar de la ligera decepción con el agua de limón, debo destacar que el servicio y el ambiente del lugar eran agradables. El personal fue amable y atento, y el lugar en sí era cómodo y acogedor.

En resumen, aunque este restaurante de mariscos no era mi primera opción para una hamburguesa, me sorprendió gratamente la calidad y el sabor de la que probé.
