Wasoku Izakaya — Restaurant in Jalisco

Ok so it was boxing night for Canelo and awesome to see him win that fight at this upbeat restaurant. It wasn’t loud and boisterous as surrounding restaurants. Nice little Asian ambiance to go with the food. 🥘 The chicken and rice was on point and the price was just right. The white fried things on top could have been vegetables because it took away from the flavors of the sauce but It wasn’t as expensive as the ramen. Ramen is one of those food that could make or break an Asian restaurant because it can be overpriced for something so simple but looks complicated to make. Kinda like sushi 🍱 where the ingredients has to be fresh or could get your stomach in knots. I’ve had better Ramen in La Condesa last week and it was around 150 MXN. Don’t get me wrong it was doable for the night but a bit overpriced. The Chinese lanterns hanging up on each table were nice but couple had holes that was very obvious...

I visited Wasoku on a quiet weekday night. I had lived in Asia for many years before my time in GDL and figured I would give this place a try. The decor is exciting, and it looks like they’ve made an effort to provide an enjoyable dining experience. I cannot say the same for the odd music they play in the restaurant. I honestly put my headphones in to escape the questionable choices made during my visit. I ordered multiple rolls, both uncooked and cooked, to try a bit of everything. The flashy and exciting interior design, unfortunately, does not make up for the not-so-fresh quality of food at this otherwise fun dinner choice. I certainly am not the only person who must have this opinion, as I was one of the only two groups eating there. We had a muy long dia in Guadalajara. Food was needed, and I chose Wasoku Izakaya. I had bento #3. I'm from WA, and fresh sushi I grande there. I understand we are in Mexico, so taking that into account, it was good. I'm a disc jockey, so listening to great ambiance musica was fantastico. I believe I will try it again in the future.

Additional note: We visited again, and the sushi was not good at all. It appeared the rice was old because I pulled out hard chunks. Again, we had a long dia, so having a not so great dining experience was disappointing. Another observation, shouldn't you do maintenance like cleaning the rock during off times or fewer customers.
