What a great recommendation this was from a friend's acquaintance.
ATMOSPHERE: The busy corner restaurant is open-air with regular tables, counter seating, and a relaxing patio courtyard toward the back, where we sat.
MENU: Mexican & American breakfast items, crepes, salads, soups, sandwiches, smoothies, milkshakes, coffees, alcohol.
BEVERAGE: Iced Tea - ₽36/$2. The refillable goblet of iced tea came with extra slices of lime on the side as well as a tall spoon for mixing; a very nice touch as I didn't have to ask for more limes or stir with my straw.
FOOD: Pancakes - ₽78/$4.20. The 3-stacker was moist yet dense but still tasty. We opted for strawberries as a topping, but be forewarned that there was a light sauce to it though it wasn't overly sweet.
Supreme Omelette - ₽72/$4. I've had good luck with omelettes in PV and this was no exception. Fluffy and loaded with cheese, sliced ham, bacon, and fresh mushrooms, with a side of crispy hash browns too. Very delish!
Mascota Eggs - ₽92/$5. My spouse's dish. Two poached eggs sat on small fried tortillas with a bit of smoked pork loin, covered with a bean chipotle sauce, then topped with panela cheese sticks, with half an avocado to the side.
Chilaquiles - $5.00 USD My new favorite Mexican breakfast was big and delicious here! Available with green or red sauce, I chose the latter. The only downfall is that it comes with only one egg so I added another because I'm a pig. Where else on earth can you get a big, homemade meal for $5?! Highly recommended.
French Toast - $4.50 USD Four halves of buttery, warm and moist pieces cane topped with fresh strawberries and a big helping of fresh fruit to the side. Amazing portion for the price. Again, highly recommended.
Make Your Own Omelette - $4.25 USD I came back a few days later and created my own omelet with ham, mushrooms, spinach and cheese. Hash browns were included. Simply wonderful!
SERVICE: We had a 20 minute wait. They announced table-ready names over a PA system, and had water available for those waiting outside.
The service was top notch, from the host, to all the servers who assisted us. And they take it seriously too, with numbered-controlled comment cards.
TIPS: Cash only.
Free but slow WiFi.
OVERALL: Great prices like most of PV, excellent service,...
Read moreUpdate 4 - We've been to Fredy's many times in the past 2 months. Food and service continues to be excellent. Highly recommend the restaurant. Update 3 - we've dined here several times since my last update. The breakfast dishes continue to meet all expectations. I've also tried the tortilla soup and a chicken burrito, both very tasty. I would say that the tortilla soup is the best I've tried in PV, and we've tried Ernesto's. I also did try the oatmeal again, providing specific instructions to ensure it was not thin. Was made exactly like I specified. Would recommend Fredy's to anyone. Update 2 - stopped in again and tried the Fredy's Tucan Grand slam breakfast. Service was very good and the food was tasty. So aside from the one bad oatmeal experience, would recommend the restaurant. May give oatmeal another try someday. Update - we tried the oatmeal again today and were totally disappointed. It took a long time to arrive, and it was mainly coconut milk with very little oatmeal. Thin as water. On top of that, we ordered toast and got bread instead. Waiting for our order made us suspect that whoever was cooking that day did not know what oatmeal is. Great food and service. Well appointed and airy restaurant. We had the best oatmeal there, made with coconut milk and lots of fruit. On our second visit we both had an eggs and french toast breakfast, very tasty. Service is outstanding. Highly...
Read moreI decided to try this restaurant in Puerto Vallarta based on the high reviews. The place itself is pleasant, with a nice atmosphere and friendly service. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to the hype.
I ordered Tucan's Grand Slam breakfast and chose the smoked pork chop as my meat, which was listed as one of the options on the menu. The waiter took my order without saying anything. But when my food arrived, it had ham instead of the pork chop.
When I asked about it, the waiter casually said the pork chop is extra. What upset me was that he didn’t mention this upfront. Instead of giving me the option to pay extra, he just substituted something I didn’t want without asking. That felt deceptive and disrespectful.
I had also placed a to-go order, but because I was so upset, I canceled it. At that point, the waiter became concerned and kept asking what was wrong. I explained that I would’ve had no problem paying extra for the pork chop if he had simply told me—it was the lack of communication and the assumption that bothered me.
He did offer to bring the pork chop at that point, but I was already too frustrated. I just said, “No, bring me the check. I want to get out of here.”
I reluctantly ate some of the food, which was very average, paid, and left. Sadly, I won’t be returning, despite the...
