Eskondida Pizza — Restaurant in Mérida

The owner of this restaurant schleps A&W Cream Soda all the way from the States just so his customers can try it. This place is a gem. My friends and I were looking for a place to eat on Christmas Eve, and most restaurants were full or ridiculously expensive. This restaurant isn't necessarily the cheapest compared to a taco stand or a restaurant in the Mayan market, but the food is authentic and the prices reasonable for the outstanding quality of what you consume. I had the strawberry and spinach salad which has a unique, slightly spicy dressing with honey. My other friend had the chef's salad, and my other friend had the Queens pizza. One word: YUM! We were amazed to find a traditional New York-style diner in the middle of this quaint Yucatecan city. If you're a New Yorker nostalgically longing for home, or if you're a local who has never tried authentic New York style pizza, this is the place for you. You can even watch snowfall on the YouTube videos broadcast on the TV. Not to mention the bathroom is immaculately clean. As much as I love Mexican food and generally have the attitude of "when in Rome," I would 10/10 come here again. This pizza is really good, in fact it's better than a lot of American pizza places! You won't find another pizza place with friendlier staff. The restaurant has a very nice relaxed atmosphere, with soccer on tv and great classic rock music playing. My family and I ordered the garlic bread appetizer, it was so delicious. It comes with four good size pieces of garlic bread with a tasty tomato sauce. And to drink, we ordered the fresh lemonade. It was a perfect thirst quencher for a hot day, and so tasty! Now the best part, the pizza... It was so good, the dough was cooked to perfection. The sauce and ingredients were so fresh and flavorful, they did not disappoint! During and after our meal we chatted with one of the owners, José was so nice and told us a about the restaurant and the plans they have for it in the future. First the service. We were pleasantly greeted at the door, by staff member Will, and offer the choice of a cool, air conditioned dinning area or the terrace. We chose the terrace. Will made a couple of recommendations and turned us over to Marco, who waited on us handsomely. Owner Jose came by and chatted with us while we waited for our Liberty Pizza.

Now the food. Very Yummy. from the sauce to the toppings it was done right. the crust was thin, and crispy, with just the right amount of texture to hold it's own against the sauce, and hold on to the toppings. The flavors balanced well and creating a very tasty pizza, and I ate more than I should have.
