I was visiting cdmx and my friend found a few options to meet for dinner. Since this one is the closest to me, and the reviews say the ambiance is nice, so I picked it, not expecting food to be amazing.
Reviews were right in that food was mediocre at best. I don’t like the lamb kabab - it’s just ground meat - kababs should be chunks of lean meat. Anyway, nothing to brag about. My friend liked her grilled shrimps - 4 pieces of them and she was still hungry after.
What’s disappointing is the “ambiance”: it was super dark inside with a small space only big enough to squeeze in 4 small tables that were way too close to each other. Given 3 of them had only couples, and the music was very loud and air was stuffy, my friend and I opted to sit on the patio on the street. It wasn’t much of an ambiance. Any other restaurant with a patio is like that.
My conclusion is this is not worth the price they are charging. You are not missing anything.
I find a lot of places in cdmx have inaccurate high star reviews - someone in the reviews commented these are not genuine reviews. So I don’t even trust reviews...
Read moreIve come many times since it opened and every single time- I am delighted. About time I give this amazing place a well deserved review.
First off the wines — always a surprise. The owner does a great job of sourcing unique wines from all over and I have learned to trust her latest recommendations.
Second, the food. Recently, I had Chips de Kale, Esquites, Molotes, and the Croquetas de Jamon Serrano— all amazing! each of them very Mexican but with a special twist. The ingredients are fresh and the plating is beautiful. Might I add that each piece of the table has bern carefully curated.
Third, the space. The space is gorgeous — a work of art truly. From the walls to the bar, to the lights to sculptures and chairs.
Fourth, the service. Wonderful.
Last but not least, the ambiance. Music and company is always good. I must say that every time I go to Canopia, it ends in an adventurous...
Read moreGood cocktails, cool decor, food was cold and not tasty (the tomato salad was the only good item out of the 7 dishes we ordered), took an hour to receive a bowl of Kalamata olives, hard and cold potatoes, the service was slow which is expected of a late night cocktail place but our original waiter visited us only three times in the 3 hours we spent there. we had to order with someone else only to get our measly bowl of olives a hour later. Wish we didn’t pay. The tomato salad was really good and the cocktails were good. They cared more about our candle being lit than us having food. Going to bed...
