Chevere — Restaurant in Mexico City

I went to Chevere in Polanco for New Year's, and while the overall vibe was lively and festive, the experience didn’t quite meet expectations. The restaurant itself is stunning—beautifully decorated and definitely set up to impress. However, the food, despite being crafted by two Michelin chefs, was just okay. Nothing stood out as mind-blowing or particularly memorable, especially given the hype.

The service was the biggest letdown. It felt chaotic and disorganized, and we were rushed throughout the night. The saying in hospitality about being like a duck—gliding smoothly while paddling underneath—didn't apply here. The "paddling" was all too visible, and it really took away from the experience. To top it off, by midnight, many tables didn’t even have champagne for the toast, which felt like a major oversight for a New Year's celebration.

We waren benieuwd naar dit restaurant aangezien we eerder bij Animalon hebben gegeten. De setting heeft veel van great gatsby. Veel lege tafels. Tijdens het eten een veel de luide show met matige zanger waardoor tafelgasten elkaar niet meer konden verstaan (echt heel storend). Gasten aan de tafel naast ons rookten en dit werd door het personeel getolereerd, er werd zelfs een asbak klaargezet (uhm, het is 2024… ook in Mexico lijkt me). Wijnkeuze beperkt en aan de prijs. Eten deels goed, maar deels ook ondermaats (tostada de atun viel tegen, hoofdgerecht eend te lang gegaard). Shrimp cocktail starter echt overpriced met 6 zielige shrimps voor 35 euro. We hadden een jarige aan tafel om middernacht, maar personeel was niet in staat daar iets voor te regelen (een kaarsje of iets dergelijks).
