I used to go to El Conejo Blanco in Polanco often, but today was my last visit. The food remains good, but the service has deteriorated into pure arrogance. Customers are treated as if they were disposable—like garbage.
We had made a reservation for a birthday and arrived early. Before even greeting us, the staff told us our table was only available for one hour, one hour fifteen minutes maximum—something they never mentioned when we booked. Despite reserving, we were given two mismatched tables (one square, one round) that were far too small. One guest would literally have had to hold their plate while eating. When we asked to switch the round table for an available square one, we were flatly told it was “impossible.” Eventually we were reassigned to another cramped setup. I told then I would have to refrain from ordering food just to make room for others. The staff’s reaction? Smirks and knowing looks among themselves, as if we were just another “difficult” group.
The rest of the service continued in the same arrogant and unpleasant tone. We left before making our order and went next door to Bandido. THEY were most gracious and friendly!
This is only my second restaurant review ever, and I don’t consider myself a difficult customer. But the experience was so insulting that I feel compelled to warn others: if you value being treated with basic respect, avoid El Conejo Blanco. They won’t care (trust me, they think we are all disposable and care nothing about customer experience) —but at least you will be...
Read moreThis is my favorite brunch spot in Mexico City. They are child and dog friendly, the food is delicious, and the staff is both attentive and kind. They filter their water so ice is safe in drinks. Their kitchen is clean and out of probably 100 meals between my family and I, we’ve never felt ill.
My favorite is the squash flower omelette. Their bacon and egg sandwich is also a favorite with my family, as well as the steak and eggs. At this point we’ve tried everything on the menu and have never been disappointed.
If you arrive at 8 am, there’s never a wait. If you come closer to 10 am there’s usually about a 15 to 20 minute wait. We usually order a coffee and beverages for the kids and hang out. They do seating on a first come, first serve basis and by table size. For example, when it’s just two of us, they won’t sit us at a 4 top and instead wait until a two top opens. This is only when they are at peak brunch time. And it makes sense so that parties of 4 or more don’t have to wait longer.
We also love to just stop by for a coffee at the end of our morning walks. They have excellent coffee (after over 10 years in the PAC NW of the US I’ve become a bit of a snob). They also make a great matcha latte that isn’t too sweat. They have many beverages available and everything I’ve tried has been well made.
We love their staff! The whole crew is so kind and really cares that you have a wonderful experience.
And if pasties are your thing, this is the place...
Read moreThe food here is fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and thoroughly enjoyable! Our server, Alondra, was wonderful. She was patient, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu, making our dining experience even better.
I would have rated this place 5/5, but I noticed an unfortunate moment when the chef appeared to be scolding the staff. While I understand the desire for perfection and urgency in a busy setting, my friend and I had requested a few extra minutes to browse the menu, as had another guest. Despite this, the chef seemed frustrated that we weren’t being served immediately.
I respect her commitment to high standards and the way she manages her team, but I’d encourage her to be mindful and offer her staff some grace, especially when providing feedback. In my view, feedback is best given privately rather than in front of guests. That said, Alondra’s professionalism and the quality of the food made it a memorable...
