I was extremely surprised to see the high ratings for this restaurant. From the reviews, ambience and price, I had very high expectations for this restaurant.
To start on a positive note, the interior is very nice and looks like a high-end sushi restaurant. Very similar design to Kobayashi Gohan. The quality of the sushi is good and you can tell it is run by Japanese. The vinegar used in the rice was a perfect balance which is pretty rare for sushi served here.
I was greatly disappointed in the attitude of the staffs, the size of the sushi and the price. We (2 ppl) had a small portion of food and it was over c.USD100. The slices of fish on the sushi were the smallest pieces I have ever seen. On top of that, the staffs were all chatting and gossiping and their behavior did not match the ambience of the restaurant at all. If they are aiming to be a 'high-end' sushi restaurant they should train their staffs to be professional. We had to remind the guy twice on our order. They were busy chatting and took them forever to prepare each dish. There was only one other couple so it wasn't a busy day at all...
Under the same 'Edo Kobayashi' group of restaurants, I have been to Kobayashi Gohan several times. Kobayashi Gohan has incredible food and staffs. I was expecting a lot more from Sushi Iwashi knowing how incredible Kobayashi is but they failed miserably. Will never come back here and would not recommend it to anyone.
ネタの質は高いですが、ネタの大きさ、スタッフの対応、またそれらに全く相応しない価格帯がとても残念でした。同じEdo Kobashi傘下のKobayashi...
Read moreDisappointed with this restaurant as it was very highly reviewed and the service and atmosphere were great, pretty much like an authentic sushi place. However, all of the nigiri we got had way too much soy sauce on them, to the point where it was the only thing you could taste. The different nigiri tasted the same besides the textural differences, as we couldn't taste the actual fish or rice with the amount of soy sauce on it. I'm not exaggerating when I say that eating it made me thirsty. Not sure why they wouldn't just serve it with minimal soy sauce and let us dip it if we wanted more. We came early and were one of the only people at the restaurant so I can't chalk it up to them being busy. For the price point it was very disappointing, if I'm paying 6 or 7 dollars for a single piece of nigiri then I'd want to...
Read moreFinally on a rainy Monday night I was able to find a seat without waiting for hours. Iwashi is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurant in town. It made me feel I was in Japan.
The name of the game is niguiris. High quality, great variety, you can stuff you face with them. They are not cheap, ranging from the $100+ pesos or a toro to $25 for a red snapper. I had about half a dozen niguiris and a rice bowl with a mix of tuna, salmon and white fish. I could have gone for more, but I was kind of satisfied like that. To drink I had green tea, which was just ok.
It was my first time there, so I loved the fact that I could talk to the itamae and ask him for suggestions on what to eat and which order to taste my niguiris. You can place a big order or go with a few at the time.
Great experience: I'm...
