BUTTERY — Restaurant in Mexico City

I had the pleasure of visiting the Buttery Kitchen Cafe in Polanco CDMX this morning and was very impressed.

The cafe is an unassuming spot with a small bakery case, some indoor seating and a larger outdoor space in a very nice part of the neighborhood. The thing that got us when we walked by the day before was the amazing aromas coming out of the kitchen.

We had a late breakfast and each had egg dishes and some pastries. The thing that impressed me the most was the care taken with everything. The sauce in our egg dish tasted like it had been cooked for hours and was savory and delicious. Eggs were carefully cooked to order and we were given a delicious spicy peanut/chile sauce that was very creative and delicious. Our pastries were world class and were made with lots of love (and lots of butter.)

It ended up the owner of the location (I forgot to get her name) helped us out during our breakfast and she could not have been more welcoming or helpful. You can tell she takes great pride in her business. The other staff members also worked with the same level of care that she did.

Went there for a late breakfast/brunch, ordered two coffees, two juices, two egg dishes. Mine ended up having a short dark hair in it (both of us have long hair). They apologized but did not offer a replacement/discount/didn’t take it off the check. Instead, on the check they added some PLATA ON or similar, for ~284 pesos. So there were seven items on my check instead of the 6 I ordered. When I pointed that out, they did bring the correct check.

I do not appreciate attempts at being scammed bluntly, in my face, only because I’m not local.

The service also leaves a lot to be desired providing how they handled the hairy dish.

Comida deliciosa con servicio algo flojo en un lugar desenfadado Su producto estrella son los panes que presumen son hechos por ellos, muy frescos y de gran sabor. Muy triste que a pesar q nos lo recomendaron por q sirven desayunos todo el día, a las 12:40 del día en un domingo ya no tenían quesos ni tocino, ingredientes que están en la mayoría de sus platos de desayuno. Optamos por el avocado toast, el pan francés con frutos rojos y crema batida y los chilaquiles. El toast con muy buena porción de guacamole y encima 2 huevos estrellados bien cocinados. Algo insípido, pues le faltaba mucha sal. El pan francés es una rebanada muy gruesa de delicioso brioche doradito con mantequilla crema batida y generosa porción de frutos rojos frescos. Lo sirven con miel de maple que llegó casi 10 minutos después que el platillo por lo que lo terminamos comiéndolo frío. En lo personal disfruto más el pan francés con rebanadas no tan gruesas de brioche para sentir más el conjunto de sabores antes que el dominio de la masa. Los chilaquiles aparentaban ser una porción chica pero resultó de muy buen tamaño, muy bien salseados, con salsa picosita de jitomate y tomate verde que juntos hacían un sabor único. Traían 1 huevo estrellado cocinado a la perfección con una pequeña cantidad de crema y queso doble crema rayado a falta del queso para gratinar. Para acompañar los cafés pedimos un rol de canela delicioso y grande con buena cantidad de glaseado y mucho sabor a canela y un brownie con mm&s, que estaba muy chocolatoso. Nuestro mesero fue amable, disculpándose de antemano por la falta de varios ingredientes. El servicio en general es malo. No se si a la hostess no le permitan pasar a la cocina porque tuvimos que pedirle un salero a 3 meseros diferentes además de a ella, para que llegara a la mesa. Lo mismo con una cuchara.
